Connectivity Diagnostics Engineer

Role Summary As an engineer focusing on connectivity diagnostics for the Connectivity Software team at Rivian Volkswagen Group Technologies, you will work alongside software developers, system integrators, and system engineers to support the diagnosis, triage, and serviceability/maintainability of features such as WiFi, cellular, Ethernet and GPS domains along with telemetry products, mobile applications, and interfaces with the infotainment platform. The connectivity diagnostics engineer will define and drive the diagnostics capability for the connectivity domain and will act as the bridge between the connectivity software team, the vehicle-wide diagnostics strategy team, and the service diagnostics team to ensure that connectivity capabilities have appropriate diagnostics coverage. The connectivity diagnostics engineer may also interface with suppliers, vendors, service providers, and other partners to escalate issues and drive open issues to closure, whether the connectivity issues are internal or external to the vehicle; these interactions will identify new diagnostic monitors and DTCs depending on work with the third parties that are involved. The connectivity diagnostics engineer will also support time-critical test events and may be asked to triage special investigations and projects. Responsibilities Host a daily standup with cross-functional partners to assess connected feature uptime and downtime. In parallel, review dashboards and escalations to determine if issues are systemic or isolated. Review ticket backlog for critical issues and assist with triage and investigation. Test new software on vehicles or in the lab and confirm diagnostic capabilities using internal and third-party diagnostic tools. Assist other system integrators with their test efforts. Qualifications A degree in either Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Information Systems A working understanding of the OSI model and network protocols Basic proficiency with database manipulation and data presentation Triage and diagnosis of complex connectivity issues to include root cause analysis, stability, performance, and interoperability problems Ability to thrive under pressure and time constraints Availability to travel and/or support activities during off-peak hours as-needed Core capabilities and behaviors should include: Strong diagnostics experience focused on telematics and infotainment Familiarity with OBD-II, UDS, and SOVD Keen observation skills of wireless (WiFi, 5G, LTE, GPS, Bluetooth) behavior Amazing triage capabilities with a big-picture perspective of how problems are diagnosed, investigated, and mitigated Ability to provide a clear explanation of connectivity features and behaviors; simplify the complex depending on the target audience Ability to identify and isolate issues in hardware and/or software; your toolset includes a spectrum analyzer, a multimeter, and a laptop with Wireshark Native Linux proficiency; embedded linux a plus Pay Disclosure Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $135,100 - $183,600 USD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
