Concept Designer, Innovation Equipment – Packs and Accessories (Global TNF)
What You Will Do
As an Equipment Concept Designer on the Innovation team, you’ll help shape the future of The North Face by pushing the boundaries of packs and accessories design and functionality. You’ll collaborate closely with materials and development teams to create innovative, bold, and functional solutions for our consumers’ most complex challenges. Your experience with and understanding of equipment functionality and construction will help bring visionary concepts to life. You’ll also support the team through compelling visual storytelling and presentations, and ensure design intent carries through to product launch in partnership with the in-line team. This role reports to the Sr. Manager, Concept Design, Innovation.
How You Will Make a Difference
Create innovative product designs that respond to the brief, considering the problem to solve, target price, consumer needs, and TNF design DNA.Build mood boards and conduct research on function and construction to inform concept direction, presenting your work to leadership and cross-functional teams.Conduct technical research on industry trends to help drive the development of new product technologies.Partner with Product Management to clarify briefs and define the core problem to solve.Collaborate with the materials team to clearly brief new fabric, trim, and hardware needs, ensuring functional intent is well defined.Influence and collaborate with in-line teams to support the adoption of new technologies, aligned with product launch strategies.Support the creation of tech packs for all new styles, ensuring clear communication of design, construction, and functional intent.Contribute to the development of content for in-person knowledge transfer and technical training sessions across global product teams.Travel to factories and suppliers to engage in hands-on product development and concept creation.What You Will Bring
4+ years of relevant experience in technical equipment design and developmentBA or BS in Equipment Design, Industrial Design, or equivalent experienceFluent in English; additional languages are a plusStrong product acumen and working knowledge of outdoor equipment development processes (Innovation, TD, PM, Design)A curiosity for emerging technologies and a desire to develop or apply skills in digital product creation, computational design, and AI-driven concepting to elevate equipment innovationHands-on experience with CAD software; 3D software experience is a plusProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesignStrong understanding of equipment construction, with flat sketching and illustration skillsPassion for the outdoors and the products you design—your creativity and decision making is fueled by real-world experienceHigh degree of agility and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environmentA growth mindset and enthusiasm for learning new tools and solving complex problemsHiring Range:
$82,944.00 USD - $103,680.00 USD annuallyIncentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
