Compounding Pharmacy Technician
Job Title: Compounding Pharmacy Technician Job Description The Compounding Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing sterile medications, ensuring the accuracy and safety of compounded products, and maintaining aseptic environments. This role involves working under the supervision of a pharmacist to accurately compound medications, adhere to cleanroom protocols, and manage inventory. Responsibilities + Accurately draw and label pre-filled syringes, ensuring precise volume and air-free contents. + Compound sterile preparations based on prescription requirements under pharmacist supervision. + Measure and mix ingredients with precision to achieve correct dosages and concentrations. + Maintain sterility within ISO-classified environments, including laminar flow hoods and cleanrooms. + Follow strict gowning and hygiene procedures to prevent contamination. + Monitor and document environmental conditions to ensure compliance with sterile standards. + Inspect compounded products for clarity, consistency, and absence of particulates. + Maintain detailed records of compounding activities, including lot numbers and expiration dates. + Assist in compiling batch records and logs for regulatory and internal audits. + Operate sterile compounding tools such as filtration systems, IV pumps, and automated mixers. + Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment. + Coordinate with technical teams for equipment servicing when needed. + Track inventory levels of sterile supplies and medications. + Work with procurement to ensure timely restocking and avoid shortages. + Conduct regular audits and manage stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure compliance. + Adhere to all applicable guidelines including USP <797>, USP <800>, and state regulations. + Participate in ongoing training to stay current with best practices and regulatory updates. + Support quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety and operational efficiency. Essential Skills + Proficiency in pharmacy and compounding. + Education: High school diploma or equivalent. + Licensure: Registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as either a Registered Technician or as a Certified Technician. + Certification: PTCB certification preferred. + Experience: Previous experience in sterile compounding, preferably in a hospital or specialty pharmacy setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Completion of a sterile compounding training program or certification (e.g., Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Sterile Compounding Certification) is preferred. Work Environment The role offers flexibility with a first shift starting as early as 6am and ending at 10am, covering 8-hour shifts. Alternatively, a second shift is available from 12pm to 8pm or 4pm to 12am. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
