Job Title: Component Design Lead

Working Pattern: Full-time

Working location: Indianapolis, IN

The Component Design Lead for Project Alpha is responsible for ensuring that Rolls-Royce employs the technical expertise, processes and oversight for our products to meet the customer’s functional, business and schedule requirements.  This program is a significant new application of our AE product line. 

The role will be filled by an engineer with relevant experience in gearbox component design and integration roles. The Technical Lead will provide guidance and oversite through the gated review processes for a team of managed engineers.

This leadership role is recognized as an authoritative source of technical expertise and advice within AE Engineering and is viewed as a key member of the broader team of technical expertise by senior capability leadership.  The role represents a critical resource to the new design activity of the AE Defense engineering, taking an active role guiding and scrutinizing the technical approach, tools and results in the gearbox design.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

Lead the technical engineering efforts for Project Alpha for both insourced and outsourced work packages.Manage the clear capture of requirements, standards, tools and technical approval flow for the Project Alpha component and subsystem design (DTA reviews, SLARP1 reviews and approvals).Coordinate with the Project Alpha Project Lead and Chief Design Engineers (Component and Functional) to plan, develop and release a superior design solution.Lead the application of Systems Engineering to elicit, influence, and manage engine-level business and technical requirements and allocate requirements to sub-system level.Represent the engine program in technical meetings with customers, operators, and airworthiness authorities.

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science) with 5+ mechanical design experience, ORMaster’s degree in STEM (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering) with 3+ years mechanical design experience, ORPhD in degree in in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer EngineeringTo be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

10+ years of gear train design and validation experienceTechnical leadership of small to medium design teamsExperience with aerospace components and system certificationExperience with oil systems with regards to gear train lubricationSkills dovetailing with project leads to ensure efficient use of resources to meet program completion dates
