Risk Management works to identify, assess, mitigate, monitor and control risks associated with business activities and strategies, and is responsible for providing an effective challenge to the lines of business. **JOB PURPOSE** The purpose of the role is to provide support within the Compliance division in its wide range of activities in Japan and other offices in Asia Pacific; Capital Markets Compliance is a global team providing independent oversight of compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and assists in reducing and managing regulatory risk. The Compliance function focuses on requirements that govern the relationship between CIBC and its clients, including, in particular, those relating to prudential standards, investor protection, sales and trading practices in capital markets activities. Capital Markets Compliance is dedicated to providing high quality, timely and innovative compliance services on a cost effective basis. **PURPOSE OF POSITION** Providing Compliance support to the Capital Markets and applicable business units in Japan and Asia Pacific as well as other regional compliance projects, including but not limited to regulatory information requests, surveys, enhancements and remediation initiatives. **KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES** + The incumbent will provide support to remedial actions and other ad-hoc compliance projects that will have firm wide impacts and may be cross-functional in nature; assist with local and regional coordination work with compliance officers and other stakeholders of CIBC in the regions and head office. + Assist in implementing compliance control related risk assessments and documentation. + Assist in monitoring of regulatory circulars and drafting compliance correspondences. + Assist in preparation of regulatory questionnaires, surveys, regulatory compliance risk assessment reports and presentation materials. + Assist in monitoring and updating of registration records with KLFB, JSDA and Tokyo Metropolitan Government, along with Continuing Professional Training requirements. + Assist in monitoring staff trading activities, gifts and entertainments and other conflicts management **CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS** The job requires working closely with the Global Regulatory Affairs and other governance functions (e.g., Risk Management, Internal Audit, Legal, Privacy, Finance, etc.) and the business units. The job may also require participating on cross-functional teams in order to support initiatives from other groups. Cross-functional relationships will include Executive level engagement. Frequent interaction with the regulators will be required for meeting coordination or document submissions. **COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES** As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls. **JOB DIMENSIONS** The scope of responsibility spans across CIBC Businesses and Infrastructure groups. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. It is a technical and strategic position that requires: + Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions utilizing creative/innovative skills; + Ability to operate in a dynamic environment; high degree of commitment to excellence is expected; + Strong team player + A high degree of flexibility and creativity required to be able to adapt to a constantly changing environment, and to develop and adapt procedures and processes to meet such changes. + High degree of verbal and written Japanese and English skills to communicate with internal stakeholders and regulators in a professional manner ; + Required to operate under time pressures and over extended periods of time, particularly at peak periods; high degree of commitment to excellence is expected; **KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS** + Bachelor degree holders with professional qualifications or majors in finance and accounting or law are preferred. + Professional qualifications such as JICPA will be an advantage. + Strong working knowledge in securities laws and regulations in Japan and risk assessment of controls and processes. Working experience of at least 4 years in external auditing, regulatory compliance and governance processes in the corporate and investment banking, treasury and capital markets business and banking activities. + Well-developed communication skills sufficient to convey factual and conceptual information on issues requiring detailed explanation and interpretation. + Well-developed writing skills for policy drafting and articulation of ideas and opinions that involve analysis, interpretation, and assessment. + Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; project management experience an asset. + Excellent communication and presentation skills; high fluency in spoken and written English and Japanese. **WORKING CONDITIONS** + Operates in normal office environment and working from home if necessary. **What you need to know** + CIBC is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all team members and clients feel like they belong.
