As a Community Health Nurse you will provide a full continuum of public health, prevention and health promotion services to enhance the optimal health, well-being and safety of clients by identifying and prioritizing wellness needs and developing and maintaining community partnerships to provide health promotion, advocacy, counseling, education, assessment, referral and intervention in a variety of community based settings in the rural remote setting.
ABOUT BELLA COOLA, BC
Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 long term care beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services. Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy.
Education & Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Training in public health nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Valid BC Driver’s License. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage will be reimbursed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge and practice of public health nursing theory, within a primary health care and population health approach.Comprehensive knowledge of the BCCNM standards for nursing practice.Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to childhood and adolescence.Demonstrated ability to counsel clients and their families.Demonstrated leadership skills.Working knowledge of immunization protocols.Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.Demonstrated ability to critically read and utilize current health research in evidence based practice.Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently and make sound nursing practice decisions.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
