Communications Specialist / Organizing STARTING SALARY: $68,038 JOB SUMMARY : Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Communications, promotes the value of unions and increases the visibility of CSEA through multiple communications channels. These include, but are not limited to print, social media and websites. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : + Identifies opportunities and develops content to promote the value of union membership using multiple communications channels. Contributes articles for the union’s official newspaper and other publications as assigned. + Manages region website page, including regular content updates. + Manages region social media platforms including developing and posting content, responding to comments as needed and analyzing metrics. + Promotes and provides coverage of activities, conferences, community partnerships and sponsored events. + Utilizes photography and videography capability to support messaging through various communications channels. + Increases earned media through establishing relationships with representatives of local media. Serves as region spokesperson. Pitches stories to media outlets and manages media relations on regional issues, including writing and distributing press releases and media advisories. + Works with region/local/unit leadership and staff to advance the CSEA mission, including supporting contract campaigns, organizing efforts and coalition building. Provides communications support including messaging, talking points, best practices and training to facilitate internal and external communication. + Provides coverage and support at events, conferences, member engagement efforts and statewide events as needed and/or assigned. + Completes reports as required. + Performs other related duties as assigned. + Travel required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Graduation from a recognized college or university with a degree in journalism or other related subject and two years of satisfactory journalism, public relations or media relations experience which regularly involves writing or editing, photography and multi-channel communication. OR Five years of satisfactory experience as stated above. OR A satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience as determined by CSEA. NOTE: Promotion to Grade 16A contingent upon two years of satisfactory performance at Grade 14A as determined by the Department Director. Promotion to Grade 18A contingent upon two years of satisfactory performance at Grade 16A, as determined by the Department Director.
