Girl Guides of Canada is seeking a Communications Specialist (Contract until January 2027)
*Remote work position. Must reside in Canada
About this opportunity
As part of the PR and Communications team, the Communications Specialist will implement internal communications plans and campaigns that engage GGC’s members, volunteers, and staff. This role involves developing content, advising on messaging strategies, coordinating cross-functional communications and ensuring alignment with GGC’s brand and strategic goals. The Specialist will also contribute to stakeholder communications while elevating the GGC brand and conveying the positive impact of Guiding on girls and youth in Canada.
Key responsibilities:
Position specifics
• Play a key role in developing internal communications plans and provide oversight on project deliverables for small and mid-sized projects, campaigns and initiatives, coordinating cross-functional communications tactics among team members to ensure communications goals and objectives are met in the appropriate timeline.
• Advise departments and key internal stakeholders on recommended communications tactics, messaging and how to reach our key audiences – adult members, caregivers, girls and youth, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop compelling content and deliver on communications plans to engage target audiences and bring to life the programs and initiatives of partner business units.
• Activate stakeholder communications – ensuring key groups (volunteers, caregivers, girls/youth, donors, etc.) are aware of important changes, new policies/procedures and opportunities by leveraging key channels such as newsletters.
• Partner with PR and Communications team members to ensure a positive outcome to communications projects/campaigns with consistent key messages.
• Create, write and edit a wide range of communications material in a variety of formats including key messages, PowerPoint presentations, marketing copy, video scripts, and more, for a variety of internal audiences and channels (newsletters, emails, web, documentation).

• Foster strong, collaborative relationships with PR and Communications team members, project partners, and project leaders as subject matter expert on communication best practices, and GGC’s brand standards and style guidelines.
• Collaborate with members of the Brand and Marketing team for the launch of key communications and internal campaigns to ensure alignment in internal and marketing messaging.
• Ensure all content, tone and voice in written communications clearly articulates and supports GGC’s strategy, vision and brand while showcasing the impact of its programming on girl and youth development.
• Support media relations and issues management activities as required by drafting key messages and other communications support as required.
• Apply organizational policies regarding stakeholder communication, customer service, diversity, equity and inclusion to content and communications, and industry best practices and accessibility standards (e.g. AODA).
• Other duties as assigned to deliver on the work of the PR and Communications team and GGC’s brand and content strategies.
General
• Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
• Liaise with other departments as required.
• Provide general, ongoing support to members/volunteers, responding to/directing inquiries and consulting with the appropriate groups and individuals to support the Mission and Vision of GGC.
• Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
Education, Designations and Certifications
• Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
Prior Work Experience
• 5 years' experience working in communications or marketing.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
• Outstanding writing skills, with the ability to transform information for different audiences into clear, engaging content across a variety of communications tools and channels (e.g., print, web, social, video script, presentations, key messages, etc.).
• Experience implementing communications plans and tactics across different audiences.
• Adaptable, flexible and diplomatic with a degree of comfort to change in projects and priorities.
• Adept at working collaboratively across a range of teams, including the ability to work with colleagues in remote offices.
• Excellent time management skills and can work independently, managing multiple projects with different stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of brand voice and the ability to maintain consistency across all communication channels.

Hiring Range: $55,100.00 - $60,000.00
