Job Description:


The Communications Officer will provide strategic communications support to the World Bank-funded project by developing compelling stories, publications, and digital content that communicate the project’s impact, amplify stakeholder engagement, and support visibility across various platforms. The Communications Officer will produce high-quality communications materials including human interest stories, video footage, social media assets, and branded collateral to promote the project’s development objectives.
This role will work closely with the Project Coordinator and World Vision Lesotho Communications team to ensure alignment with both World Bank and World Vision communications standards, and to link the project with internal and external stakeholders, including communities, media, donors, and the public on a short-term contract (2 months).

Key Outputs/Responsibilities:
    

Strategic Communications and Storytelling (45%)

Produce responsive and targeted communication materials such human-interest stories, impact case studies, feature articles, press releases and high-quality visual stories (photographs and video content) highlighting project contributions to economic inclusion and livelihood transformation.Work with Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) and field teams to document outcome driven stories aligned with the project’s results framework and World Bank visibility requirements.Collaborate with the World Vision International Lesotho Communications and Marketing Department to maintain a communications calendar aligned to key project activitiesDevelop media ready content and story packages to support public engagement and donor reporting.Train project staff and community focal points on basic storytelling, branding, and digital documentation skills.Liaise with beneficiaries and field staff to identify compelling narratives that enhance visibility and donor engagement.Coordinate with the World Vision International Lesotho Communications and Marketing Department to ensure brand consistency and strategic messaging.


Digital Engagement & Visibility (35%)

Manage and update World Vision Lesotho’s digital channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, website) with engaging and consistent content.Create culturally sensitive 5-10-minute videos that showcase project outcomes and personal testimonies.Develop project-specific communication and awareness materials, maintaining alignment with brand identity and messaging.Design or coordinate the design of social media graphics, infographics, and promotional materials.Produce and disseminate quarterly newsletters with key highlights and impact stories.Monitor digital content effectiveness using analytics tools and adjust strategies as needed.Coordinating relationships with designers and agencies as required.Work with Communication’s function to support the use of the WVL website and available communication channels.Act as a brand ambassador, leading colleagues to ensure all digital collateral helps to build our brand and deliver against project objectives.

  
    
Reporting & Donor Compliance (20%)

Track communication metrics and prepare visibility reports for donor submission.Ensure that all publications and branding meet World Bank and WV standards.Support procurement and vendor coordination related to communications deliverables.Provide technical input to project reports and contribute to success story annexes.Participate in learning exchanges and remain current on communications trends relevant to economic development and donor-funded projects.

Qualifications (Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills) and Experience :

Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Development Communication, or a related field.Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in communications, media engagement, digital storytelling, or journalism.Proven experience producing high-quality written and visual content, including photo and video documentation.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro).Graphic Design certification or demonstrated design skills will be an added advantage.

Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with media, partners, donors, and community stakeholders.Editorial and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.Familiarity with content management systems and digital reporting tools.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and internet research tools.Willingness to travel extensively and work in remote/rural settings.Adheres to World Vision’s Christian values and child protection standards.Flexibility to perform other related duties as required.

Working Environment / Conditions:

•    Work environment:  Office based with frequent travel to the field.  
•    Travel:  60% Domestic/international travel is required.
