Retail Communications is the internal communications team responsible for delivering communications that inform, inspire and engage partners within the retail organization. Part of the broader Global Communications team, this highly cross-functional group works with subject matter experts across Starbucks to deliver the latest information and updates, in a clear, concise, transparent and deeply human way, always through the lens of Our Mission and Values. As a manager on our Retail Communications team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering best-in-class internal communications targeted at all levels of our retail/store partner audience. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Retail Labor Communications Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in internal communications, change management, and/or reputation communications, with a background or experience communicating to petitioned and unionized retail/store partner audience preferred.
What you'll do:
· Strategic Communication Planning: Partner with a variety of cross functional teams, including retail operations, external, digital communications, partner (human) resources, corporate affairs, and events teams to deliver end-to-end communications support. In addition to strategic communications projects, you will work very closely with the labor communications team and regional peers to support retail operational and store challenges, union election processes, regional advising regarding labor and labor-adjacent issues.
· Issues Management: Serve as a subject matter expert to rapidly address and manage planned and unplanned communications, developing clear messaging and actionable instructions for our retail partners regarding store issues, labor and union matters.
· Relationship Building: Foster strong, non-hierarchical relationships with peers, asking questions, contributing ideas, and learning from the team to drive work forward.
· Content Creation: Create dynamic and engaging communications and content for retail partners and leadership. Develop short, engaging messaging that resonates with our busy retail leaders, ensuring timely delivery across relevant communication channels.
· Emergency Communications: Serve on our on-call rotation for select weekends or weeks to help write and publish emergency communications, working with team members across time zones.
Qualifications:
· Experience: Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of communications, operations, or change management experience preferred, ideally in a fast-paced communications, campaign, or retail setting. Experience communicating with unionized workforce is a plus.
· Skills: Strong writing, presentation, verbal communication, editorial and collaboration skills. Ability to decode “corporate speak” and write brief, and clear communications.
· Understanding: General understanding of working across a corporate and unionized workforce. Deep curiosity and passion for the retail partner experience.
· Work Style: Efficiently manage multiple projects while maintaining superior attention to detail. Confidently and proactively adapt to changing priorities. Navigate ambiguity and change with confidence and consistency. Encourage diversity of thought and gather feedback judiciously.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
