Communications & Digital Coordinator
Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the temporary full-time (up to 3 years with the possibility of extension) position of Communications & Digital Coordinator in the Mayor’s Office.

The Communications & Digital Coordinator supports the public-facing work of the Mayor’s Office through engaging digital content, responsive communication, and accessible storytelling. This role manages the Mayor’s digital presence across platforms, contributes to communications planning, and ensures alignment with broader strategic messaging. The ideal candidate brings creativity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills to a fast-paced and highly visible environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage day-to-day content for the Mayor’s Office digital platforms (website, social media, newsletters), ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with current messaging priorities.Design and publish graphics, videos, and other multimedia to support digital storytelling.Draft and schedule social media posts, monitor engagement, and support rapid response on trending or emerging issues.Track analytics and prepare monthly performance reports on digital engagement to inform future strategy.Maintain content calendars and coordinate approvals with the Chief of Staff and Senior Communications Advisor.Ensure digital communications reflect a commitment to accessibility, equity, and respectful public discourse.Assist in the planning and promotion of public events, announcements, and community campaigns.Monitor and flag public feedback and online sentiment, supporting issues management efforts.Contribute to speechwriting, media briefing notes, and internal communication as needed.Ensure all content adheres to HRM visual identity standards and tone of voice.QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:Degree or diploma in Communications, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field.2–4 years of experience in a digital communications, social media, or public-facing content role — ideally within government, non-profit, or political environments.Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:Proficiency in social media platforms, scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer), and graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.Experience using analytics tools such as Meta Insights, Google Analytics, or similar.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS: Temporary full-time (up to 3 years)

HOURS OF WORK: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, 35 hours per week. Flex options to work outside of these hours and hybrid may be available.

SALARY: $60,000 - $75,000 annually. Salary will be commensurate with education and years of applicable experience. The successful candidate will have the option to participate in HRM's benefit and pension plans.

WORK LOCATION: City Hall (1841 Argyle Street, Halifax, NS)
