Job Description
The Communications Desk Assistant plays a pivotal role in the Transmission Control Center (GCC) by assisting Power System Coordinators in managing the Integrated Transmission System (ITS) in Georgia. This position involves communicating vital information about system events to field personnel, management, and ITS partners. The role includes tracking system events on transmission lines and equipment, preparing detailed event reports, and performing various administrative tasks.
ResponsibilitiesInitiate and maintain communication with internal customers and external ITS partners during system events.Assist Transmission Power System Coordinators in developing and correcting outage reports and maintaining records.Perform clerical and administrative activities in the GCC.Answer phone calls from field personnel entering and exiting substations and power line right-of-way, and enter information into a database.Provide communication to field personnel during routine and emergency conditions.Track system events on transmission lines and equipment.Maintain records of all outages.Essential SkillsProficiency with computer applications, including Excel, Microsoft Word, Windows 7, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh school education required; college degree is a plus.Field experience in electric power utility, particularly in generation or transmission maintenance or construction, is helpful.Knowledge of electrical fundamentals or control center operations is desirable.Experience related to call centers, reading blueprints, or hands-on electronics is advantageous.Technical military experience, particularly as an air traffic controller, is beneficial.Work Environment
The role is based in-office at the Transmission Control Center. The position requires four 10-hour days (either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday). Some weekend and holiday work may be required, particularly during major storms, as storm duty is part of the role. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
