Description of Job
GENERAL SUMMARY
The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented, and quality-driven communicator with strong writing skills, project coordination experience, and a passion for accessible and inclusive storytelling. This position is responsible for managing CCD’s weekly employee and student newsletters, coordinating and publishing the CCD Blog, contributing to the college events calendar and CCD Newsroom, and capturing compelling stories that bring the college’s mission to life.
Under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Communications, the coordinator also supports emergency communications, awards research and submissions, and helps increase event visibility and community engagement through targeted messaging.
Serving as a trusted content steward and communications project manager, this role ensures a consistent voice, visual alignment, and message quality across all channels. Ultimately, this position amplifies the impact of the MarCom team by supporting internal and external partners with high-quality, timely, and mission-aligned communication. Some limited before and after hours availability may be required for emergency situations.
PRIMARY DUTIES
+ Strategic Communications & Content Creation
+ Lead development and delivery of CCD’s weekly employee and student newsletters with a focus on important communication updates, and institutional awareness and engagement.
+ Serve as content contributor and coordinator for the CCD Blog, including editorial planning, writing, and story sourcing.
+ Write and edit communications for announcements, email campaigns, and community updates as needed for internal and external communications.
+ Develop compelling, student-centered stories to support marketing campaigns and priority initiatives.
+ Event Support & Visual Content Capture
+ Backup and support for website event posting (all marcom is required to be able to do this).
+ Contribute list of planned action items to the editorial calendar to ensure visibility and alignment with campaign timelines.
+ Attend on- and off-campus events as needed to capture video and photography, gather story content, support promotional efforts, or as a CCD representative. Marcom team has a shared responsibility for events.
+ Assist with pre-event, event and post-event collaborative communications, as needed.
+ Support the development of presentations, speaking points, invitations, follow-up messaging, and event surveys as needed.
+ Internal Partnerships
+ Collaborate with departments to develop messaging and content that supports enrollment goals and academic pathway promotion.
+ Participate as assigned in campaign planning sessions with CCD collaborative and external teams as needed to promote CCD’s brand and communications initiatives.
+ Monitor industry peer institution awards opportunities; recommend submissions that elevate CCD’s people, programs, students and partnerships.
+ Communications Operations & Emergency Messaging
+ Coordinate and send e-blasts, and emergency alert messaging (as needed). Includes the modification and posting of the website emergency banner as needed, as a cross-trained marcom team member.
+ Support the Director of Marketing & Communications in the execution of real-time or after-hours emergency messaging protocols, when required. This includes e-blasts, and emergency alert messaging (as needed) and posting of the website emergency banner with urgent information.
+ Reporting, List Management & Platform Optimization
+ Track and create a monthly report on communications performance using analytics tools and software. This report exists and is developed by the director and the agency – it simply needs to be reviewed, and prepared for sharing results.
+ Maintain and update distribution lists and segment audiences for targeted messaging.
+ Assist with platform maintenance and improvement (intranet, email tools, calendar systems project management software) to ensure efficiencies and a consistent and engaging user experience.
+ Contribute to the editorial calendar with timely event information.
+ Create and maintain a content library for all blog, e-blasts and other communications by month, year and type of communications channel.
+ Awards Opportunities & other communications as needed
+ Identify awards opportunities that the team can apply for – collaborative effort
+ Update website event posting – backup as needed
+ Backup for social media posting – backup as needed
+ Attend meetings as needed with internal and external individuals and groups

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Education:(Minimum/Required)
Associate’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field.
Experience: (Minimum/Required)
Minimum 2 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or marketing with demonstrated success in content development and cross-platform messaging.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (Minimum/Required)
+ Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
+ Working knowledge of AP style and accessibility best practices.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
+ Experience with event coverage, photo/video capture, and post-event content creation.
+ Proficient in email marketing systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and project management tools.
+ Familiarity with website content management, calendar posting, and intranet platforms.
+ Ability to build cross-functional relationships and communicate effectively across departments.
+ Understanding of enrollment marketing, student engagement, and digital content strategy.
+ Proactive, collaborative, and flexible, with a high level of professionalism and integrity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: (Preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (Preferred)
+ Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
