Reporting to the Content Writer-Editor, the Communications Coordinator will focus primarily on internal communications, while also supporting external communications, managing branded merchandise, maintaining contact lists, conducting research, and assisting with various departmental activities.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
+ Creates and distributes newsletters, email announcements, and other internal communications for faculty, staff and students.
+ Works with departments across campus to gather updates and relevant information to be shared with the university community.
+ Contributes to content strategies that enhance engagement and awareness of university initiatives.
+ Assists with drafting, editing, and proofreading content for external publications, such as press releases, newsletters, website content, and social media posts.
+ Assists in building and maintaining relationships with local and regional media, monitors media coverage, and maintains a media contact database.
+ Assists in developing presentations and reports for external stakeholders as needed.
+ Coordinates ordering, inventory management, and distribution of university-branded promotional items, working with vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality.
+ Maintains accurate contact lists for faculty, staff, media and other stakeholders; regularly updates mailing lists.
+ Oversees subscription lists for newsletters and other regular communications.
+ Provides general support to the marketing team for event assistance, content creation and project coordination, as well as participating in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
NOTE:
+ Until further notice, work will be performed in a hybrid manner with 70% onsite presence.
+ Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
+ Experience in communications, marketing, or a similar role, preferably within higher education or a nonprofit environment.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with communication tools such as e-mail marketing platforms and content management systems (CMS).
+ Basic understanding of social media platforms and their role in university communications.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
+ Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
+ Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (eg.g./ Photoshop, InDesign) or similar design software.
+ Knowledge of CRM systems or databases for managing contacts and communications. Familiarity with internal communications strategies and best practices.
**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**
Writes and prepares written material on a variety of topics such as students, alumni, faculty, campus facilities, academic programs, and/or events.
- Researches and writes news releases, brochures, profiles, announcements, e-news stories and other materials as needed
- Reviews and proofreads drafts prepared by other staff
- Produces material to be used in a number of formats such as print, web sites, and presentations
- Adheres to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification, and style
- May work with other professionals in admissions, marketing, public relations, development, or academic affairs to write brochures or marketing materials
- Performs related duties as assigned.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**
Salary commensurate with education and experience, from $59,444 - $66,154.
