The Opportunity  

This position works out of our Pleasanton location in the Heart Failure division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. 

The Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic sourcing and procurement strategies for assigned commodities within the Heart Failure division. This role ensures continuity of supply while driving key performance metrics such as quality, delivery, cost, diversity, and sustainability. The Commodity Manager acts as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and suppliers, driving the “One Procurement” model and delivering value through innovation, cost savings, and supplier partnerships.  

What You’ll Work On 

 

Develop and implement global sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives. Develops alternate sources as necessary to ensure a steady flow of materials and cost competitiveness Identify and execute cost reduction opportunities and process improvements.   Negotiate, execute, and manage supplier contracts and relationships. Evaluate supplier capabilities, conduct value analysis, and manage supplier performance. Lead and support complex RFPs and procurement projects.  Develops risk management strategies and recommends short and long terms strategies with defined risk/benefit strategies.  Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, and quality.  Monitor and forecast market trends and cost drivers for assigned commodities.  Educate internal stakeholders on procurement tools, processes, and compliance. Ensure adherence to procurement policies, ethics, and regulatory requirements.  

 

 

Required Qualifications 

Associate's degree 

4+ years of experience 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field  

5+ years of experience in Procurement, sourcing, or engineering/manufacturing experience  

Experience sourcing or managing complex components 

CPM or equivalent procurement certification  

Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment  

In depth experience in contract management 

Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects 

Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization  

Strong procurement skills including spend analysis, negotiations, supplier relationship  

Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner  

Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail 

Advance Commands of English​ 

Ability to travel approximately up to 40%, including internationally

The base pay for this position is $86,700.00 – $173,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
