Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a highly motivated Commissioning Engineer to join our team in Tampa, FL. This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Engineering, particularly those with an interest in HVAC systems and mechanical building systems.
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that building systems—such as HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems—are designed, installed, and functioning as intended. This position offers a unique blend of office-based work and onsite fieldwork, providing exposure to both technical design reviews and hands-on system testing.
Job Summary
Building commissioning is a systematic process that ensures all building systems perform interactively and efficiently according to the design intent and operational needs. As a Commissioning Engineer, you will collaborate with design and construction professionals, clients, trade contractors, and facility managers to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient buildings.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Building Commissioning Activities
Conduct commissioning reviews of construction documents, to ensure compliance with design intent and project requirements.Develop and execute pre-functional checklists and functional test procedures for HVAC, mechanical, and other building systems.Perform construction and installation observations, ensuring systems are installed per design specifications and industry standards.Evaluate the performance of HVAC and building control/SCADA systems, ensuring they meet operational and energy efficiency goals.Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to mechanical and HVAC systems during commissioning and post-occupancy phases.Project Coordination & Communication
Assist in the development, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities during the design, construction, testing/training, and warranty phases.Attend and actively participate in project coordination meetings with clients, contractors, and design teams.Record and distribute meeting minutes for commissioning coordination sessions.Provide detailed construction observation reports when working onsite.QualificationsMinimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Engineering, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.Technical Skills: Proficiency in technical reading/writing and experience with Microsoft Office tools.Preferred Qualifications

Office Work: Approximately 60% of your time will be spent in the office, performing design reviews, developing commissioning plans, and preparing reports.Onsite Fieldwork: The remaining 40% of your time will involve onsite presence at project locations, overseeing the installation, startup, and testing of building systems.Travel: This position requires frequent travel to project sites, which may include overnight stays.
