About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a dynamic, mid-sized commercial insurer that consistently outperforms its size in the corporate space. Expanding their Vancouver team, they are on the lookout for a strategic, technically skilled Commercial Underwriter. This role isn’t about cookie-cutter underwriting – it’s about navigating complex risk landscapes, designing tailored insurance solutions, and driving meaningful growth.

Your Key Responsibilities: Underwrite and price mid to large commercial accounts across industries such as construction, real estate, logistics, and manufacturing Analyze complex risk submissions, including financial statements, loss history, and exposure data Collaborate with brokers to customize policy wording, develop layered coverage programs, and explore specialty endorsements Balance growth and profitability across your portfolio, with a focus on the Western Canada market Partner with actuarial and product teams to define and refine risk appetite and pricing strategy Monitor emerging trends, industry shifts, and competitor activity Mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements and underwriting best practices What You Bring: 4–7 years of commercial underwriting experience, ideally within an insurer or MGA environment Strong technical expertise in P&C products, program structuring, and risk evaluation Proven ability to underwrite complex, multi-layered accounts Skilled communicator who can negotiate with brokers and clearly explain underwriting decisions General Insurance license (Level 1 or higher) is an asset Professional designations such as CIP, CRM, or FCIP (completed or in progress) are considered strong assets Proficient in underwriting platforms and Excel, with the ability to extract and apply data insights Why Join This Team: Compensation: $100,000 – $125,000 base salary dependent on experience, plus performance bonus, benefits, and hybrid flexibility Work for an insurer with national reach and regional autonomy – you’ll be empowered to make decisions Manage sophisticated accounts without the bureaucracy of a large corporate environment Enjoy hybrid flexibility and a culture that values collaboration and expert judgment Gain direct access to senior leadership and opportunities to influence portfolio strategy Clear, supported career progression toward Senior Underwriter or Underwriting Manager If you’re ready to take on high-value accounts and shape risk solutions with both analytical precision and relationship savvy – this is the opportunity for you.
