Commercial Technical Manager

The Commercial Technical Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient, accurate, and compliant processing of endorsement transactions across the EMEA region. This role is responsible for driving technical underwriting excellence, ensuring endorsement activities and processes align with regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and underwriting best practices.

The Commercial Technical Manager will define, implement, and maintain the rule base and operational framework under which endorsement activities are conducted, ensuring clarity, consistency, and adherence to technical underwriting principles. They will also oversee quality assurance processes, identify areas for improvement, and mitigate risks associated with endorsement processing.

In addition to technical oversight, the role involves acting as a key liaison between underwriting teams and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives and delivering exceptional service to clients.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Technical Underwriting Oversight:

Provide technical oversight for the end-to-end evaluation and processing of endorsement transactions across the EMEA region, ensuring underwriting decisions are accurate, compliant with regulatory frameworks, and aligned with organizational risk appetite and standards.Ensure endorsement activities are underpinned by sound underwriting principles and completed within agreed timelines and service level agreements (SLAs), maintaining a consistent focus on technical accuracy and risk assessment.Serve as the primary technical authority for endorsement transactions, offering expert underwriting analysis and resolution to address nuanced risks and ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines and stakeholder expectations.Identify and implement enhancements to underwriting workflows, leveraging technical expertise to optimize processes, improve decision-making efficiency, and uphold underwriting integrity while maintaining adherence to regulatory and organizational requirements

Rule Base Definition and Maintenance:

Define, document, and maintain the rule base and operational framework under which Endorsements are processed, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with business objectives.Regularly review and update the rule base to reflect changes in regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and industry best practices.Collaborate with compliance, legal, and other key stakeholders to ensure the rule base supports effective risk management and operational excellence.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

Develop and implement a robust quality assurance framework to monitor the accuracy, compliance, and consistency of endorsement processing activities.Conduct regular audits and reviews of the team's work to identify areas for improvement, mitigate risks, and ensure adherence to the defined rules and framework.Analyze quality assurance results to identify trends, root causes of errors, and opportunities for process improvement, driving continuous enhancement of team performance.Ensure all endorsement activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards, minimizing operational and reputational risks.

Stakeholder Management:

Act as the key liaison between the Operations teams and in country Underwriting, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives and delivering exceptional service.Build and maintain strong relationships with country Underwriting business stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration on endorsement-related matters.Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on team performance, operational challenges, and process improvements, ensuring transparency and accountability.Represent the Endorsement Desk in cross-functional meetings and projects, contributing expertise and insights to support organizational goals and initiatives.

Strategic Contribution:

Support the organization’s strategic goals by driving operational efficiency, maintaining compliance, and ensuring the Endorsement Desk operates as a center of excellence within the EMEA region.Identify and implement opportunities for innovation and process improvement, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance the team’s effectiveness.Contribute to the development of long-term strategies for endorsement processing, ensuring the team remains agile and responsive to evolving business needs and regulatory changes.

 

Requirements:

Language: Advanced (C1) level in English is a must. And other European languages are desired. Underwriting Expertise: Minimum 5 years UW experience (preferably Property & Casualty) with a strong understanding of underwriting principles, processes, and risk assessment, with experience in applying underwriting knowledge to endorsement transactions and ensuring alignment with business rules and frameworks.Framework Development: Skilled in defining and maintaining operational frameworks, rule bases, and SOPs to ensure consistency and compliance.Quality Assurance: Strong background in implementing quality assurance processes, conducting audits, and ensuring regulatory compliance.Team Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate high-performing teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.Stakeholder Management: Experienced in building relationships and influencing internal and external stakeholders, including senior management.Process Improvement: Expertise in identifying inefficiencies and implementing process improvements to enhance operational performance.Regional/Global Exposure: Familiarity with the EMEA region’s regulatory landscape and cultural nuances; experience in multinational or regional roles is a plus.
