Job Description

Allstate Canada Group (ACG) is looking for a Commercial & Privacy Counsel to join its Law & Regulation Department. We are looking for a creative and high energy legal counsel interested in working at the nexus of law, business, technology, data, and consumers. Reporting to the Manager, Innovation Law, this lawyer will be required to provide proactive, timely and strategic legal advice to senior business leaders and their teams, and will handle a broad range of commercial, contract, privacy and technology related matters. This role will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of corporate projects across ACG and collaborate with other areas of the enterprise and local Law & Regulation Department.

Successful candidates for this role will have significant experience in contract review, drafting and negotiation, and knowledge of commercial law, technology, privacy/data and AI. Knowledge of insurance legal and regulatory environment would be considered an asset.

Accountabilities:

Advisory: Work collaboratively with business and functional partners to provide strategic, practical and risk-based legal advice on a broad range of matters and initiatives, primarily in the areas of commercial, privacy/data, emerging technology and new technology products.  Support regulatory response and strategy for privacy, security, and data programs and incident response/investigations.Research & Analysis. Perform complex research and analysis of new and/or pertinent laws, regulations and other legal authority, to determine applicability to, and impact on, business and enable action plan.Commercial contracts & Third Party Risk Management. Support contracting and procurement efforts across ACG, including structuring, drafting, reviewing and negotiating simple to complex agreements, such as service, technology, data privacy, partnership and sponsorship contracts. Collaborate with key stakeholders, including Sourcing & Procurement, Third Party Risk Management and enterprise Legal to enhance contract governance process, develop and maintain various contract templates and effectively identify and mitigate legal, contracting and regulatory risks.Data Privacy Program design & implementation. Provide expert legal advice in evolving ACG’s data privacy management program and collaborate with key stakeholders to implement and maintain key data privacy initiatives.

Qualifications:

5+ years of demonstrated commercial, technology and/or privacy law experienceLicensed to practice law in OntarioMember of the Ontario Bar in good standingFrench language ability preferred, but not required.
