Combination Technician
Mountain Ltd. has an opening for a Combination Technician in the Wilson, KS area. Specialties include OSP/ISP engineering, design, permitting, right-of-way, and CAD for traditional and wireless telecommunications companies. Primary Job Responsibilities + Installs and repairs voice and data services in the Wilson Communications serving areas. Including: + Installation of dial tone service, including associated jacks and wiring + Installation of FTTH broadband Internet service at the customer’s premise and associated central office or field location + Installation of internal wiring in conjunction with broadband equipment Monitored by supervisor, dispatch and customer feedback and report of problems + Performs repair and preventative maintenance on the network for the purpose of preserving the equipment and ensuring smooth operations. This may consist of: + Working with electronics equipment, both CO-based and remotely located + Working on customer-based equipment + Repair and/or install OSP facilities, including buried copper and fiber + Utilizing the various network monitoring systems in place Monitored by supervisor, dispatch and customer feedback and report of problems + Installs and maintains wired data networks. Tasks may include: + Installation/maintenance of data/network equipment + Installing data circuits following manufacturer’s procedures + Conducting data circuit testing at different locations + Installation/maintenance of suitable cabling/wiring for data purposes + Software installation and troubleshooting of networks Self-monitored on a case-by-case basis and reviewed by the supervisor as needed Secondary Job Responsibilities + Responds to service needs of customers to ensure continued service and customer satisfaction. Receives maintenance and/or new service instructions from dispatch, reviews reports and plans. These tasks are accomplished by: + Identifying and installing the necessary equipment/cabling/wiring for the service request + Isolating and identifying the location and cause of the service problem + Replacing or repairing any defective parts of the network + Completing work documentation properly and timely + Communicating problem/repair to customer and supervisor + Locates buried cable for other companies, utilities, or individuals to prevent damage to cable. Location identified by: + Researching records in files + Making on-site visits + Communicating location to individual requesting information by marking location with paint and/or flags + Upselling of products and services by effectively communicating with customers the advantages of adding or upgrading levels of services. + Completes appropriate documentation and computerized reporting to ensure proper documentation of work performed. Tasks may include: + Completing service orders + Completing trouble tickets + Completing time sheets + Completing staking sheets and permits + Preventative maintenance file updates + Other tasks as assigned by supervisor. Responsibilities This position involves the ability to complete work both on an individual basis and as a member of a team. This position is responsible for maintaining positive public relations by effectively communicating with customers and presenting a positive image of the company at all times. Latitude Duties and tasks are assigned by dispatch or by supervisor through work assignment mechanisms. Decisions in accomplishing tasks are made independently and in collaboration with appropriate personnel. Purchase needs are addressed in collaboration with the supervisor, according to company procedures. Contacts Daily phone and personal contacts with customers to complete work tasks. Daily phone contacts with other departments to obtain or share information. Daily personal contacts with local townspeople to exchange information. Essential Skills & Requirements Education: + High school diploma or the equivalent, required. + Completion of a two-year Associates Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience in the telecommunications or cable industry + Data equipment/networking certificates or equivalent experience + Computer software certifications are a plus Skills: + Effective communication and interpersonal skills, required + Telecommunications network repair skills, required (includes voice and data) + Computer skills, required Experience: + Minimum of two-year telecommunications or cable equipment/networks, required + Minimum of two years experience with PCs, required + Minimum of one year experience with data networks, required Licenses: + Valid Driver’s License, required Physical: + Frequent lifting, bending, squatting, carrying, twisting, and manual dexterity, required + Ability to access, input, and process information utilizing a computer, required + Ability to independently lift 50 lbs., required Training: + Appropriate company training completion after hire, required + Appropriate telecommunications equipment/network training after hire, required + Completion of various data certifications after hire, required Other: + Frequent road travel required + Occasional air travel required to attend training or industry meetings + Some overtime, on-call rotation weekend and holiday hours, required Thank you for your interest in Mountain Ltd.
