Stantec’s Environmental Services sector is seeking a highly motivated Coastal Engineering Specialist to join our rapidly growing team and deliver projects in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Preferred location is New York City, NY. Other office locations as well as flexible office schedules will be considered for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will have 0-5 years of experience in coastal engineering, port and marine engineering/construction, marine science, or oceanography. Stantec is a leader in the coastal engineering industry with a deep bench of expertise and our dynamic Coastal Engineering Team leads and supports a wide variety of coastal work across the US. Team members are expected to be able to contribute to several areas of coastal engineering and provide support in the following areas:
+ Natural Hazards and Coastal Risk Mapping
+ Coastal Hydrodynamics and Morphology
+ Design and Analysis of Coastal Structures, Dredging, and Beach Nourishment Projects
+ Coastal Management, Environmental Restoration, and Shoreline Enhancement
+ Field Measurements, Instrumentation, Remote-Sensing
+ Construction Monitoring and Oversight
**Your Key Responsibilities**
As a Coastal Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering successful coastal projects and working as part of an integrated team to develop cost effective, practical coastal engineering designs and construction solutions for our clients. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
+ Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies.
+ Communicate and apply with a high level of understanding the principles and practices of coastal engineering, coastal hydrodynamics, wave theory, and sediment transport mechanics.
+ Complete complex engineering calculations and modeling for the design or analysis of projects located in coastal environments and ecosystem restoration projects.
+ Provide engineering leadership at a project level task and working with other engineering staff to complete projects.
+ Complete tasks assigned by a Senior Coastal Engineer and works with junior engineers to complete engineering studies and design projects.
+ Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the coastal engineering work in marine related projects.
+ Remaining current on regulatory policy and rule changes.
+ Maintain consistently high standards of delivery, quality, flexibility, and innovation.
+ Perform coastal engineering analyses and designs through the application of coastal theory.
+ Organize and interpret engineering data to prepare clear and concise design drawings, engineering reports and technical documentation.
+ Assist in obtaining State and Federal project permits and perform permit compliance.
+ Prepare project construction plans and specifications.
+ Field work responsibilities may include performing project construction observation, interpret contract documents, enforce contract specifications, and review submittals for accuracy, completeness and design consistency.
+ Communicate with co-workers, clients and the public in a professional manner including in a meeting or presentation.
+ Prioritize and accomplish multiple assignments efficiently and effectively with limited supervision.
+ Understand limitations of education and experience and bring problems beyond capability to supervisor's attention.
+ Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and vendors to successfully meet shifting needs.
+ Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures.
+ Other work activities may include assisting in proposal efforts, preparation of labor/material estimates, design packages and deliverables, documenting technical data for management review and performing other duties as assigned.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Coastal, Civil or Environmental Engineering with 0-5 years of experience in one of the areas of expertise listed above.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations and written technical report preparation, as well as effective skills working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
+ Fieldwork, such as reconnaissance, measurements, construction inspection, or instrument handling and deployment.
+ Completing design calculations for the coastal engineering practice: including marine structures, rubble mound structures, geotechnical/foundation designs, hydrodynamics/fluid mechanics, beach nourishment, dredge/fill, and sediment disposal site designs.
+ Coastal engineering analysis in support of coastal flood hazard studies under a predefined framework, specifically wave runup/overtopping analysis, and wave overland propagation analysis.
+ Preparation of design plans and specifications for bidding and construction purposes.
+ Drafting and/or geospatial design (GIS and AutoCAD).
+ Skill in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master of Science Degree or higher in Coastal Engineering, Oceanography or related field.
+ Current registration as Engineer in Training (EIT) and ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) License within 2 years.
+ Construction oversight and administration experience including shop drawing approval, review of contractor surveys/progress reports, and execution of final certification(s) upon project completion.
+ Application of numerical modeling tools for simulating circulation, waves, water quality, sediment transport, or mixing (e.g. XBeach, FUNWAVE, HEC, ADCIRC, Delft3D, SWAN, Mike, CORMIX).
+ Computer programming (MATLAB, Python or similar) and navigating Linux environment.

**Pay Range:**
• Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP) - Min Salary $ 94,600.00 - Max Salary $ 137,200.00
**Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
