Caterpillar is hiring experienced CNC Gear Machinist with experience producing high-quality gears and pinions for heavy equipment to join our manufacturing team in South Milwaukee, WI.

At our South Milwaukee facility, you’ll be part of a team that builds some of the largest and most powerful mining machines in the world. This facility specializes in the production of Cat® Electric Rope Shovels (ERS) used in mining operations around the world.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC milling centers to machine gear teeth and pinions to tight tolerancesLoad and align workpieces using fixtures, chucks, clamps, and cranesAssemble cutting tools using holders, milling cutters, and indexable insertsLoad CNC programs and perform trial runs to verify accuracyAdjust machine parameters such as feed rate, speed, and offsetsPerform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision toolsMake program edits and manual adjustments as neededClean and deburr finished parts, ensuring quality and readiness for next stepsMaintain a clean, safe, and organized work areaRequired Qualifications
1–3 years of hands-on CNC milling experienceAbility to read and interpret blueprints and part drawingsProficiency with precision measuring tools (verniers, calipers, micrometers)Understanding of G & M code programmingBasic knowledge of machine shop math, including trigonometryFamiliarity with machine shop practices and terminologyDemonstrated safe work historyPreferred Qualifications
Previous experience in gear manufacturingKnowledge of gear tooth geometry and gear quality inspectionFamiliarity with Siemens controls and CNC interfacesExperience operating DMG Mori milling machinesAdditional Info
