Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
GENERAL DUTIES:
The nursing assistant provides patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Access to all Patient Health Information is for treatment purposes only.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Performs general nursing procedures, teaching, interventions, goal setting and treatments (within scope of practice) and reports significant findings to the Registered Nurse or Clinical Manager/Charge NurseOrganizes care and assumes responsibility for assigned group of patientsPerforms bedside hand off at all timesKnowledgeable of growth, development and treatment needed in various populations servedOrients patients to room/unit and ensures, patient communication white boards are completeProvides skin care and hourly roundingOrganizes and provides care based on priority of patient needs and scheduled activities of patients.Ensures call lights are answered timely and report patient needs which are outside of the scope of practice to the appropriate personnelObtains and documents vital signs, patient height & weight, activities of daily living and intake and output promptly and appropriatelyNotifies RN and documents changes in patient's condition, appearance or behaviorUtilizes universal precautions and ensures others do so as wellEnsures compliance, knowledge and adherence to hospital policies, protocols and proceduresIdentifies patient safety risks and ensures patient safety is maintainedAdvocates and ensures patient rights are upheldReports potential crisis situations or unsafe conditions to the nurse in chargePerforms customer service with competence, compassion and respect and providing assistance to patients, physicians, co-workers and visitors in a prompt and courteous mannerSupports changes in clinical practice and assists the department director with implementing changesParticipates in quality improvement programsParticipates in orientation of new staff as neededMaintains competence in practice as required by facilityAdheres to hospital attendance and punctuality policyAttends all education required by the facility or the directorApplies telemetry leads and troubleshooting if working on telemetry monitoring unitProficient with braces and equipment utilized by patients for activities of daily livingAssists in monitoring mental health patientsOther duties as assigned by unit directorQualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or GEDCurrent California Nursing Assistant CertificationCurrent American Heart Association Basic Life SupportNon-violent crisis de-escalation training (CPI) within (90) ninety days of hireExcellent customer service skillsAbility to work with staff, patients and familiesGood oral and written communication skillsAbility to work in a dynamic environmentAbility to use computer for documentationPreferred:
