The primary objective of home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nursing Assistant (CNA) for the Activities department, t o perform advanced sub professional nursing duties in the care and comfort of patients. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the quality of life and well-being of participants through purposeful and inclusive recreation services. This is non-professional nursing work involving responsibility for providing personal services to assist in the care and recovery of chronically ill, geriatric, psychiatric and/or chemically dependent residents at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home, a 156-bed long-term care facility. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in patient care; OR Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate or graduation from an Emergency Medical Technician Program plus one year and six months of experience in patient care; OR Completion of an accredited registered or practical nursing program. NOTE: Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: As a CNA 2 in the activities/recreational department, you will receive direct supervision from the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist 3-A. In this role, you will: + Assist Therapeutic Recreation Specialist 3-A and 2 with conducting, planning, scheduling, and organizing activities. Document resident activity participation. + Conduct scheduled activities independently when needed. + Assist with scheduling volunteers for activities. Meet with volunteers and accept donations. + Escort/transport residents to recreational sites, field trips, voting sites, and other areas as indicated. + Sort and distribute mail to residents. + Assist residents to and from activities. Assist residents with registering to vote and assist Registrar of Voting with absentee voting as needed. + Clean and organize recreational common areas and submit a work order to maintenance if any issues are found. + Assist with setting up for activities. Put away items after activities and clean equipment after each use. + Direct and assist in providing care to residents such as ambulating, positioning and lifting. Assist in the feeding of residents during activities or as needed. Observe resident’s condition and report any changes to charge nurse (RN). + Assist residents with toileting during activities and while on outings. + Assist professional staff in responding to emergency situations. + Performs other related duties as required.
