Cloud Support Specialist – AWS
Position Description:

CGI is expanding its cloud and platform support capabilities across Atlantic Canada and is seeking a Cloud Support Specialist to join our team. This is a permanent, full-time position with a hybrid work model, requiring 2–3 days per week onsite from one of our Atlantic Canada offices: Halifax, NS; Fredericton, NB; Moncton, NB; Stratford, PEI; or St. John’s, NL.

In this role, you will support and improve a client’s internal cloud platform experience across AWS operations and Developer Experience (DevEx). The client operates in an automation-first environment, where most work is performed through code, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS CLI/API interactions rather than console-based workflows. You will own support intake and resolution, work closely with platform and security teams, and continuously improve support through documentation, self-service, and lightweight automation. This role does not include an on-call requirement.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Support intake and ticket ownership
• Triage incoming service requests, clarify requirements, prioritize work, and drive tickets to resolution
• Provide clear and consistent communication to requestors, including timely updates, next steps, and detailed closure notes
• Identify recurring request types and recommend process, documentation, or automation improvements to reduce repeat work

AWS access and operational support
• Fulfill AWS access requests, including IAM roles and policies, approval workflows, permission troubleshooting, and least-privilege adjustments
• Investigate and resolve common AWS operational issues, including failures related to permissions, connectivity, service configuration, and logs
• Diagnose issues using AWS CLI and APIs across services such as IAM, STS, CloudWatch, S3, EC2, and VPC networking fundamentals
• Collaborate with platform and security teams to ensure remediation items are implemented consistently and securely

Developer Experience (CI/CD and repository support)
• Troubleshoot GitLab CI/CD pipeline issues, including runner configuration, permissions, secrets and variables, templates, and artifact failures
• Support repository workflows, including access requests, protected branches, merge strategies, and enforcement of standard guardrails
• Assist development teams in adopting standard patterns that improve reliability and reduce dependency on manual support

Continuous improvement
• Create and maintain practical runbooks, knowledge base articles, FAQs, and support documentation
• Develop small automation tools or scripts using Python and/or Bash to eliminate repetitive manual tasks
• Contribute minor updates to Infrastructure-as-Code patterns (e.g., Terraform modules) through pull requests, following established standards

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• 3–4 years of experience supporting cloud platforms, infrastructure, or developer tooling in production environments
• Hands-on AWS experience in an API- and CLI-driven environment, with limited reliance on the AWS Management Console
• Strong understanding of AWS IAM, including policy evaluation, assume-role flows, and least-privilege access design
• Practical troubleshooting experience across logs, metrics, and networking fundamentals (DNS, TLS/HTTP, security groups, routing concepts)
• Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows, particularly with GitLab CI/CD
• Strong understanding of Git fundamentals, including branching, merging, protected branches, and merge request workflows
• Experience scripting or automating tasks using Python and/or Bash
• Strong written communication skills and demonstrated ownership of support tickets from intake to closure

Nice to have
• Experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as CloudWatch or Datadog
• Exposure to security and compliance workflows, including access reviews and audit-friendly change tracking
• Experience supporting containerized environments (ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes)

The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications.
