The Cloud Engineer is passionate about innovation and has a proven track record in cloud engineering, helping shape the future of our cloud architecture. In this role, you will collaborate with the Cloud Center of Excellence and other cloud engineers to design and implement solutions that align with organizational goals, providing expert guidance and hands-on support for cloud adoption and administration. You will plan and implement infrastructure to transition scientific workloads into a cloud-based environment and work closely with a team of administrators to ensure researchers receive these capabilities in a timely and cost-effective manner. Additionally, you will champion simplicity, consistency, reusability, and standardization across the division and play a key role in implementing the overarching cloud vision, strategy, and approach in collaboration with the ITD architecture team.


A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  

This role offers a remote or hybrid work option, with three days in the office per week preferred based on business needs. The ideal candidate will be located in Ohio.


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Work with the Cloud Center of Excellence to craft and implement complex cloud solutions in line with organizational and divisional goals.

Take ownership of the success of projects, designs, and operations of cloud environments.

Provide hands-on implementation of cloud solutions consistent with enterprise architecture standards.

Design, implement, and manage cloud systems to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security.

Mentor and train junior team members or others on cloud best practices, architectures, tools, and processes.

Develop automation scripts, templates, and frameworks to streamline deployment and operations.

Monitor cloud environments, analyze cost metrics, performance metrics, and implement enhancements.

Lead meetings and presentations on cloud status, operations, outcomes, issues, and improvement opportunities.

Mentor and train junior team members or others on cloud best practices, architectures, tools, and processes.

Use design values centered around simplicity, consistency, reusability, and standardization across the division.

Carry out the division's cloud vision and strategy in collaboration with the ITD architecture team, ensuring progressive and integrated solutions.

Offer subject matter expertise in assigned areas, ensuring state-of-the-art and tailored solutions to evolving challenges.

Collaborate with fellow engineers and IT architects' division-wide to ensure a cohesive approach to cloud architecture.

Support framework that ensures a smooth transition of products from development phases to sustainable production deployment.

Engage proactively with key stakeholders, including division leaders, and external allies, to co-create enduring architectural solutions.

Keep a pulse on emerging cloud technologies, leading the drive for the adoption of groundbreaking tools and methodologies.

Engage in hands-on implementation and development, including prototyping and coding, as required.

Understand multi-cloud offerings, curating and updating a catalog optimized for internal enterprise use.

Remain at the forefront of IT advancements, positioning the organization to swiftly leverage cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices.


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline

Additional experience or relevant certifications may offset some or all of education requirements

Seven years of experience working in areas of computer systems and Infrastructure including a minimum of three years specializing in cloud engineering, preferably experience in Azure cloud solutions

Demonstrated advanced skills in technical judgement to be able to guide decisions across systems, scale, performance, security, fault tolerance, etc.

Advanced experience with and significant knowledge of at least one cloud platform

Experience working within small to medium sized cloud engineering teams

In depth knowledge of IaC and platform automation tools such as Azure ARC, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, Terraform preferred

Ability to communicate and present technical concepts to a wide range of audiences

For Information Technology Division caregivers, ITIL Foundations certification is required within 6 months of position start date

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Advanced cloud certification

Azure Certifications

Experience with multiple cloud providers desired (Azure, IBM, AWS, GCP)

Experience in research

Familiarity with Azure Dev Ops
Previously operated in a regulated environment

Experience with AI development tools (i.e. Azure Machine Learning, Sagemaker, Bedrock, or similar)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.

Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.

Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
