We are seeking a Principal Platform Engineer who will contribute to the success of our technology initiatives in our digital transformation and modernization journey. Recognizing this need, we have decided to accelerate our technology modernization efforts beyond the investments already underway on digital, data, and analytics, and have embarked on a multi-year journey to migrate our entire application portfolio to the Microsoft Azure cloud. This engineer will provide technical guidance for overall changes needed across U.S. Bank‘s operating model to support our migration to Azure cloud in key areas such as product, DevSecOps, IT Operations, Funding/FinOps, Risk, and Security. The incumbent will be responsible for hands-on development of software tools, as well as influencing senior engineering leadership across the bank's infrastructure to drive a collaborative and successful team that enables an efficient and effective integration while maintaining the bank's security and risk standards. This position will work with leaders and teams across the organization to proactively identify, track, and solve for dependencies and risks and to address issues reactively as they become known. **What You Will Do:** + Work with both internal teams and system integrators to develop architecture and migration strategy for a portfolio of enterprise applications to Azure cloud + Develop, select, and procure software tools to accelerate application migration + Provide high-level architectural guidance and assist the team in aligning architecture to business requirements. + Work across the organization to foster a culture of applying applicable and relevant design patterns in accordance with the needs of the company and guides the teams toward future state of in-house open-source application development. + Set the direction of the architectural roadmap. Determine the Return-on-Investment for specific engineering initiatives and determines appropriate levels of investment for given strategic horizons. Establishes engineering strategic objectives that drive architecture and technical approach. + Set the direction of the delivery process across the organization, promote a culture amongst engineering of delivering features with minimal disruption to production. Responsible for executing product roadmap on-time and within budget and ensures security and relevant compliance of core systems. + Drive and set the culture of quality and timely code reviews across the organization while encouraging teams to consider release complications. Provides guidance on reviews conducted by others. + Drive the organizational testing strategy and uses quality metrics to identify gaps. Guide the teams on following standards and aims for best practice across the organization. + Actively works with the security team to set and refine organization-wide security strategy. Fosters a security first mindset across the organization. Drives security awareness and culture across the organization. + Ensures expectations across the organization and external stakeholders are clarified between all parties involved. Identifies dependencies across the organization and works with individual teams to resolve them before they become an issue and installs preventative measures to mitigate repeat occurrences. + Works across the organization to foster a culture of priority setting and urgency in alignment with organizational strategy. Coaches the team on making trade-offs, prioritization and managing technical debt. Identifies and manages technical and business risk. **Basic Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience + Six to eight years of relevant experience **Preferred Skills/Experience:** + 5+ years experience designing and engineering **enterprise scale cloud architecture** + Microsoft **AZ 900 certification** + DevOps pipeline experience + Previous experience migrating enterprise applications to public cloud ( **Azure preferred** ) + 5+ years of experience using, designing, and developing **Microservices.** + 5+ years of designing and implementing solutions that integrated with other **internal or vendor platforms.** + 5+ years of experience with open-source technologies like **Java or C#, Spring boot, Kafka,** etc. and containerization. + Previous development experience with React is preferred + Thorough understanding of several teams’ domains and how they contribute to the overall business strategy and alignment to the technical strategy + Proven ability to design complex distributed applications built for high performance and throughput while being scalable and reliable + Fit into a team that has embraced continuous delivery + Experience using modern and functional programming styles + Excellent code hygiene and habits + Possesses expertise in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices in an agile environment If there’s anything we can do to accommodate a disability during any portion of the application or hiring process, please refer to our disability accommodations for applicants (https://careers.usbank.com/global/en/disability-accommodations-for-applicants) . **Benefits:** Our approach to benefits and total rewards considers our team members’ whole selves and what may be needed to thrive in and outside work.
