Job Family Definition:
The Cloud Consultant guides and supports HPE's clients through their digital transformation, and thinks strategically and long-term about the complex business and technical needs of customers.
Deeply evaluates customer applications for the strategic and functional transition from internal systems to external virtual cloud-based platforms. Acts as a trusted value advisor to HPE's customers in the development of their cloud computing strategy, providing recommendations for cloud migrations, technical implementation roadmaps, and adoption plans.
Designs state-of-the-art public, multi, and hybrid cloud technology solutions, achieving scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
Builds influential relationships with executives including the C-level when necessary. Proactively defines an effective engagement model with the customer's key influencers and decision-makers.
Management Level Definition:
Contributions include applying developed subject matter expertise to solve common and sometimes complex technical problems and recommending alternatives where necessary. Might act as project lead and provide assistance to lower level professionals. Exercises independent judgment and consults with others to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.
What you'll do:
Architect, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure (IaaS / PaaS / serverless) ensuring high availability, scalability, security, disaster recovery, monitoring, and cost-optimization.
Design, build, and manage CI/CD pipelines; automate build, test, release, rollback, and deployment workflows.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, etc.
Containerization and orchestration: deploy, manage, and scale container‐based workloads (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
Monitoring, observability, logging, alerting: set up tools, dashboards, SLIs/SLOs, incident response, root cause analysis.
Security & compliance: integrate security best practices into pipelines; manage IAM, secrets management, vulnerability scanning; ensure compliance with standards as relevant (e.g. ISO, SOC, GDPR, PCI, etc.).
Performance tuning, capacity planning and resource provisioning.
Automation of repetitive tasks, configuration management, and process improvements.
Manage cloud costs: budgeting, tracking cost metrics, identifying waste, optimizing usage.
Incident management and on-call support: respond to incidents, do post-mortems, propose improvements.
Collaborate with multiple teams (development, QA, security, operations) to align on best practices, deployment processes, SLAs, etc.
Mentor / guide junior/mid DevOps engineers or CloudOps engineers; help raise the maturity of DevOps practices in the organization.
What you need to bring:
Bachelor’s degree in a related area of study with typically 7-8 years’ experience; master’s degree desirable.Knowledge and Skills:
6-8 years of hands-on experience in DevOps / CloudOps / SRE or similar roles.
In-depth knowledge of various cloud technologies, virtualization, networking, and storage.
Deep experience with at least one of the major cloud providers (AWS / Azure / GCP), including core services (compute, storage, networking, IAM, database, etc.).
Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates, etc.).
Containerization & orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes (EKS/AKS/GKE or self-managed), including experience with operators, scaling, lifecycle, upgrades.
CI/CD pipeline tools: Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar; experience setting up pipelines that are automated, reliable, secure, fast.
Scripting / programming: Bash / Shell, Python, Go, or equivalent; able to write automation for infrastructure, deployment, monitoring.
Expertise in monitoring/logging/observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / EFK stack, Datadog, etc.
Strong understanding of networking (VPC, DNS, load balancers, firewalls, routing) in cloud and hybrid environments.
Security posture: IAM, secrets management, encryption (at rest/in transit), vulnerability assessments, compliance frameworks.
Experience in performance optimization, capacity planning, resource management, and cost control in cloud ecosystems.
Experience managing large-scale systems, high availability, disaster recovery.
Experience with hybrid / multi-cloud architectures is a plus.
Excellent problem solving, analytical thinking.
Strong communication skills; ability to collaborate across teams.
