Clinician – Harmar Outpatient Surgery Center

UPMC St. Margaret Harmar Outpatient Surgery Center is hiring a full-time Clinician to support our Preop/PACU department. This is a unique leadership opportunity to grow your nursing career within the PACU setting without nights, weekends, holidays, or call! We are a fast-paced outpatient surgical center with 5 busy operating rooms. Our main service lines are orthopedics and ophthalmology, but we also have plastics, podiatry, ENT, and dentistry. We care for outpatient surgical patients, performing both pre-op and post-op care. We are looking to add to our experienced, caring, and passionate team of nurses. 

The Clinician role entails serving as a resource and “mission control” of the day-to-day operations in the pre/post-op of same day surgery. We are looking for a strong organized leader who can look at the big picture and see opportunities to improve workflows and efficiencies in this fast-paced department. Someone who is passionate about staff development and accountability. A leader who has an interest in regulatory experiences and quality initiatives. 

Hours for this position will be varying, weekday shifts. Daylight hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays! Our ideal candidate is a nurse with ACLS, PALS, Critical Care Essentials or previous (ED/ICU), Previous surgical/procedural experience (PACU, GI/IR, OR), previous leadership experience, and regulatory knowledge. Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications. Applies nursing knowledge and skills within the framework of Relationship Based Care, using the nursing process to meet the clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Demonstrates critical thinking in the analysis of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care within an episode of care. Practices solid verbal and written communication skills and can articulate and translate the patient’s condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Ensures patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. Identifies, educates, and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition. Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility, or system level. Assumes formal leadership responsibilities for one or more of the following: quality improvement, evidence-based practice, GN or new hire on-boarding. Completes and/or assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports as applicable.
