The M80 Neuro Transitional Care is part of Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute. Our neurology, neurosurgery, and pediatric neurology and neurosurgery programs are recognized as among the best in Ohio. Caregivers in the M80 Neuro Transitional Care Unit provide care to patients who suffer from ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subdural hematomas, status epilepticus/seizures, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders and spinal injuries. As a Clinical Technician, you will assist with basic patient care, maintain room cleanliness and demonstrate empathy and compassion in all activities and interactions. Your work plays a direct role in our mission to continuously provide patients with the best healthcare experience possible.

This position provides opportunities for growth, with the ability to pursue education, participate in shared governance, tuition reimbursement to become an RN, follow pathways to pursue Magnet, and advance through the clinical ladder.

A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley Catheters. 

Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.  

Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

High School Diploma/GED

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within new hire period 

One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) OR additional education/training (e.g., mental health) 

Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an 8th grade level

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Two or more years of recent, full-time patient care experience

Physical Requirements:

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
