As a Clinical Speech Pathologist, you will perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing functions of patients. This includes interpreting and reporting test results to facilitate medical diagnosis, providing counseling and education about communication and the diagnosis to patients and their families and determining therapeutic plans, including the need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy. This is a hands-on role that will allow you to enhance your skills and can act as a steppingstone to other positions within Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) from 8:00AM – 4:30PM, which includes one weekend day per month.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures.
Evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients.
Interpret and report test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.
Provide counseling and education about communication and the diagnosis to patients and families.
Determine therapeutic plans, including the need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy.
Select assistive speech devices to improve the patient’s communication.
Perform re-evaluation to determine progress after therapy.
Provide observations about hearing and other behaviors to help determine the need for other services.
Maintain records of all services.
Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such as schools and employees.
Assist with planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting and purchase of new equipment or materials.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
Hold or be eligible for a Speech-Language Pathology License (SP) from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology in the state of Ohio
Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
Completion of a nine-month Clinical Fellowship Year
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Acute care experience
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform tests.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
