The Clinical Specialist (CS) Lead provides managerial and clinical leadership to the caregivers of the Respiratory Therapy Department within a designated specialty area while performing the duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. You will help to wean patients from continuous ventilation utilizing established procedures and improve the patient experience with adequate staffing. **A caregiver in this position works days from 6:30AM - 6:30PM, with on-call requirements.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Provide clinical and managerial leadership to the respiratory staff as designated by departmental management.
+ Monitor daily operations of assigned areas and acts as a resource person for staff.
+ Assign therapist workload and adjust staffing based on patient volume.
+ Participate in continuous quality improvement, projects and in-services.
+ Provide feedback on staff performance.
+ Assist with development and implementation of Respiratory Therapy Policy/Procedures/Protocols.
+ Act as a Respiratory Care liaison by developing/maintaining communication with the multidisciplinary care team.
+ Assist with developing and providing ongoing orientation/training for newly hired therapists, existing staff, nursing and LIPs.
+ At sites where applicable, perform patient education regarding treatment and care of respiratory illness/disease to patient and family.
+ At sites where applicable, perform leadership on-call responsibilities as assigned by manager.
+ At sites where applicable, perform blood gas puncture and analysis.
+ Perform duties outlined in the Respiratory Therapist job description and patient care duties as a part of the daily workload.
+ If the caregiver is designated as a Technical Consultant by the blood gas Laboratory Director, the caregiver must meet minimum qualifications as specified by the CLIA code of federal regulations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Associate's Degree
+ Graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy
+ Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided for validation
+ Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the NBRC
+ State of Florida Department of Health License Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
+ Three years of experience in Respiratory Therapy including critical care or a specialty environment OR a Bachelor's degree and two years of experience
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or ALS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (inpatient only as appropriate to site)
+ Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and/or certified as a Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) (as appropriate to site)
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Bachelor's Degree
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Requires good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
+ Requires normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
+ May require sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
+ This position requires proficiency in treatment of respiratory disorders for inpatient and outpatients with various media, i.e. oxygen, therapeutic gases, inhaled medications and positive pressure devices.
+ Interpretive skills frequent interactive and consultative associations are inherent in this position.
+ The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory or visual fashion is essential.
+ Physical Duties: Moderate to heavy lifting and positioning of patients.
+ Moderate pushing and pulling of equipment.
+ Working Conditions: 100% air-conditioned.
+ Moderate risk of exposure to blood or air-borne pathogens.
+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
+ Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
