The Clinical Pharmacist – Inpatient Operations supports the expanding inpatient pharmacy services at Avon Hospital, providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care in a collaborative hospital environment. This newly created position offers the opportunity to grow alongside the hospital's continued expansion while supporting a broad range of inpatient pharmacy operations. Responsibilities include clinical chart review, medication order verification, inpatient dispensing, non-hazardous sterile compounding, medication management using pharmacy carousel technology, and providing operational support for the Hospital Care at Home program. The pharmacist partners closely with inpatient care teams and pharmacy technicians to ensure safe, accurate, and timely medication delivery while helping maintain efficient pharmacy workflow. This role experiences its highest patient volume Monday through Thursday, supports a team of 2–3 pharmacy technicians, and focuses on operational and clinical pharmacy services without routine code response responsibilities.
A caregiver in this position will work a 7-on/7-off schedule consisting of 72 hours per pay period (0.9 FTE/SP1 eligible). During the work week, shifts are 11:30am–10:00pm Monday through Thursday and 12:00pm–10:00pm Friday through Sunday. Weekend and holiday coverage are built into the 7-on/7-off rotation.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provides safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.Verifies medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.Documents services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.Utilizes available technology proficiently and to full extent, in their area of practice.Ensures all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.Maintains professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.Maintains professional working relationships with all caregivers.Promotes a positive work environment by providing constructive ideas and feedback to improve services and the department.Educates and trains students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.Provides cost-effective care.Accountable for drug use policy adherence.Utilizes time and resources effectively.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
PharmD or Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacyFor individuals required to administer immunizations, Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are requiredPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Board CertificationCompletion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience preferred.Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice areaPrior inpatient experience is strongly preferredPhysical Requirements:
