The Clinical Pharmacist - Inpatient supports 24/7 pharmacy operations at Mercy Hospital, providing both operational and clinical pharmacy services across a variety of inpatient care settings. In this role, caregivers perform medication order verification, oversee and verify sterile compounding activities, support IV room operations, and ensure the safe and efficient preparation and dispensing of medications. Pharmacists collaborate closely with pharmacy technicians, nursing teams, and providers to optimize medication therapy and support patient care initiatives. Additional responsibilities include renal dose monitoring, prescription verification, and supporting infusion center operations through partnership with oncology services. This position offers opportunities for both centralized operational pharmacy practice and decentralized clinical involvement, allowing pharmacists to develop a broad range of inpatient pharmacy skills within a collaborative healthcare environment.
**A caregiver in this role will work a combination of day and evening shifts, with approximately 60% of scheduled hours on day shift and 40% on evening shift. Day shifts are 6:00am to 3:30pm, and evening shifts are 2:00pm to 12:00am. This position includes an every-third-weekend rotation and participation in the holiday schedule, working approximately three holidays per year.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
+ Verify medication orders and/or dispense medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
+ Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
+ Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with national accreditation standards.
+ Maintain professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.
+ Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ PharmD or Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
+ Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days (for individuals required to administer immunizations).
+ Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross - For caregivers required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest, this is required within one year of hire.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Board certification.
+ Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience
+ Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area
**Physical Requirements** :
+ Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.
+ Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
+ Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
+ Must have normal or corrected vision.
+ Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person
**Personal Protective Equipment** :
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
**Pay Range**
Minimum Annual Salary: $101,900.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $155,390.00
