The CNS is an experienced healthcare professional with a strong understanding of patient care for a specific population. Using clinical knowledge, research, and experience, they adapt to changing situations and personalize care based on the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care. They serve as a resource for colleagues and advocate for patients and families.

 

• The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is the clinical lead for a program or an area of defined nursing practice. • Provides leadership to integrate new knowledge and innovation within a specialty area. • Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within the three spheres of influence: patient/family, nurses, and the organization/system. • Collaborates with the Nursing Director(s) to lead clinical practice and education on the unit, within the division, and across the health system. • Accountable for designing, implementing, and measuring safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies. • Contributes to the advancement of nursing practice at the unit/system, local, state, national, and international levels. • Instrumental in applying the Professional Practice/Care Transformation Model across the health system. • Leads implementation of the Care Transformation Model. • Leads programs and initiatives aligned with EHC and Nursing’s strategic plan. • Models transformational leadership behaviors. • Demonstrates leadership in ethical decision-making and patient advocacy. • Engages in ongoing self-evaluation, seeking input from colleagues, other professionals, patients, and families. • Leads implementation of principles related to fair and just culture. • Provides direct care for complex patients with multi-system care issues (biophysical, psycho-emotional, spiritual) at the individual, family, and community level. • Proficient in use of technology to expedite care. • Works collaboratively with nurses and other disciplines to promote patient- and family-centered care. • Utilizes principles of effective communication. • Cognizant of the diverse needs of patients, staff, and other professionals. • Considers cultural influences when collaborating with patients, families, and staff. • Works with manager to formulate a plan for professional development. • Attends educational in-services as appropriate. • Participates in professional activities and organizations to stay informed on current trends and developments. • Utilizes coaching strategies to build high-functioning teams. • Coaches staff and others, utilizing advanced communication skills. • Mentors and coaches professional development. • Provides expert nursing consultation to nurses, physicians, patients, families, and others to promote quality care. • Effectively communicates with the multidisciplinary team.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing BoardMaster's degree in nursingMeets GA Board of Nursing requirements for CNSThree years of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse with at least two years of recent experience in the area of concentration. BLS and ACLS certifications required
