Facility:Dayton Children's - Main CampusDepartment:NICUSchedule:Full timeHours:36Job Details:The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care using the standards of care and the standards of professional performance outlined by the American Nurses Association and the Ohio Board of Nursing. The RN interacts with an interdisciplinary team to promote the optimal health potential of the patient and family, delivering proficient nursing care based on a detailed assessment of the patient/family needs and the hospital mission. The RN promotes a patient and family experience-oriented environment and acts as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers-both internal and external. Department Specific Job Details: The NICU Staff Nurse is responsible for the coordination of patient care services for the NICU patient or group of patients during a specific shift. Supports the NICU belief that all babies are entitled to a developmental plan of care; that each baby receive appropriate positioning, is maintained in a supportive environment, and has hands on care that provides for their optimum growth and developmental outcome. Supports the NICU belief that all babies are entitled to routine pain assessments and pain management following surgeries, painful procedures, and injury. Delivers competent nursing care based on documented assessment of the patient’s needs following the NICU Standards of Care. Interacts with the physicians, communicating the patient’s assessment, and discussing patient need, contributing to the plan of care for the patient. Assist with the orientation and training of new employees and/or those pulled in the unit from other areas. Completes educational requirements necessary for the NICU, including Perinatal Continuing Education Program (PCEP) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within the first six-months of employment. The NICU staff nurse participates in the transport process by being an active member of the transport team and/or supporting members of the team with patient care assistance. Understands and utilizes concepts of Growth and Development in providing patient care and with interactions of all age groups. Participates in the Quality Improvement Process by providing input and/or completion of audits. Is responsible for the coordination of the infant’s discharge; including identifying educational needs, training and support for families. Works with other disciplines in planning for discharge to meet the patients and family’s needs. Adheres to hospital policies, including but not limited to confidentiality, attendance, safety and infection control. Participates with CMC leaders to provide and improve health care services that are responsive to the community and patient needs and improve health care outcomes in conjunction with the hospital mission.      Education Required: Diploma/Associate Degree in Nursing and commitment to obtain BSN in Nursing within 3 years of hire (effective 7/1/16) Graduation from an accredited program of nursing Education Preferred: BSN in Nursing Years of experience Required: Graduate Nurse Year of experience Preferred: 1-2 years of Neonatal Experience Must have RN Licensure in state of OHIO, active CPR certification, preferred NRP Training Education Requirements: Associates: Nursing (Required) Certification/License Requirements: [Lic] RN: Registered Nurse (RN) - Ohio Board of Nursing, CPR: Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation - American Heart Association At Dayton Children's we believe that each moment counts with our patients, families and with each other.
