Clinical Nurse Manager Oncology

Major Responsibilities:


Develops, implements & evaluates standards of nursing practice to assure quality care.

Maintains efficient & effective departmental operations

Ensures that work schedule is planned, implemented & monitored according to policy

Ensures the availability of necessary supplies & equipment

Facilitates smooth coordination of department services with other departments

Participates in case management activities to facilitate quality patient outcomes

Collaborates with care coordinators & team members to identify & resolve issues that affect patients and the care team

Identifies internal and external customers needs & ensures provision of services to meet those needs

Preparation, administration & monitoring of departmental budget to ensure personnel, facilities & materials are at desired level.

Determines appropriate operating expense budget

Monitors expenses

Adjusts staffing to meet budget requirements

Monitors productivity of staff to assure budgetary compliance

Gives input into capital requests for the Division

Assists in evaluation of products that would affect budget and/or clinical

Provides safe environment for patients and staff.

Monitors & assesses department safety

Reviews policy & procedures for clinical competency

Maintains infection control, regulatory, OSHA & Accrediting Organization guidelines

Develops staffing plans & schedules to ensure appropriate staffing.

Interviews & hires new staff

Assess acuity & complexity of patients to determine appropriate staffing levels

Monitors productivity & overtime

Participates in the development of staff in order to assure competency.

Conducts timely performance evaluations

Provides coaching, counseling & disciplinary actions as appropriate

Terminates employees with approval of Clinical Director & HR

Determines need for in-service/education for appropriate staff development

Holds appropriate staff meetings to disseminate information/assures information

Acts as role model for staff behaviors

Promotes critical thinking skills in staff by acting as a resource & mentor

Provide orientation of new staff

Fosters team building, peer support & respect

Collaborates with physicians , staff & other health team members to assure delivery of quality care

Fosters an atmosphere of empowerment

Supports effective decision making

Supports staff through change by role model behaviors

Participates in programs that have impact on morale, image, & working conditions

Promotes Continuous Quality Improvement

Identifies projects

Collects appropriate data

Develops corrective action

Actively promotes and involves staff in CQI process

Maintains personal & professional grown & development

Develops goals for educational development with input from Clinical Director

Attends workshops, seminars & professional organizational meetings both internally & externally to stay abreast of current clinical & managerial issues.

Licensure:

Nurse, Registered (RN)

Education/Experience Required:

BSN, BA or enrolled and progressing in degree completion 5 yrs clinical experience 3 yrs lead or supervisory experience


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Appropriate clinical skills Basic management Good communication skills Team building skills Basic computer knowledge
Current licensure in state of Illinois CPR

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints Resiliency & flexibility to deal with a changing environment Ability to work weekend, etc. to meet departmental needs Ability to travel (local) May be exposed to hazardous & life threatening diseases
