Banner Heart Hospital is looking for a Clinical Exercise Physiologist Lead to join their Cath Lab team. This is a full-time position. The schedule is 40 hours per week, working Monday through Friday. Cardiac Rehab is a multidisciplinary program designed to support our heart and pulmonary patients. It combines supervised exercise, education, and lifestyle guidance to improve health, reduce risk factors and promote long term wellness for our inpatient and outpatient population. Our facility includes a 28 bed cardiovascular intensive care unit that specialized in the recovery of surgical patients, cardiogenic shock, and CRRT. Our 60 bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit specializes in fast-paced procedural recovery and our 23 bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit specializes in surgical recovery. Our space also includes two endovascular suites, six OR suites, six cardiac Cath labs, and three electrophysiology labs. POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for technical and clinical activities associated with cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. Coordinates, plans and assists with daily functioning of the specialty under the guidance of leadership. Assesses, plans and documents care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional practice in a cardiac and pulmonary rehab setting. Assists with training of new staff. Provides clinical care at least 90% of the time as part of their daily routine. Collaborates with department leadership to optimize department performance. Participates in quality improvement processes, monitors patient outcomes and completes administrative duties under the direction of leadership. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Meets internal and external client service expectations and promotes continuous improvement philosophy of the department and hospital. Demonstrates efficient and effective use of resources in meeting customer expectations and performing job responsibilities. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all clients and resolves client concerns promptly and courteously. Maintains effective, courteous communication with medical, nursing and technical personnel. Works to improve client service. 2. Implements individualized exercise plans that consider patients’ physical and age-specific needs and abilities. Ensures that treatment plans are supported by standard practices and/or current literature. Re-evaluates treatment plans, as needed, to ensure safety and maximum patient benefit. Promotes and serves as a resource to team for standardization of exercise testing, department protocols and best practices. Maintains strong working relationships with physicians; provides recommendations and guidance specific to knowledge base. 3. Provides staff training in phase I, II, III, cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab and/or exercise testing. Ensures that all training and orientation requirements are completed by all staff and students within the designated time frame. Uses resources appropriately, sharing ideas for cost savings and efficiency. Coordinates peer interviews and contributes to hiring and termination. May assist leadership with performance issues. 4. Coordinates oversight of quality, risk management, safety, and department standards and is a role model and resource for providing quality patient care and maintaining clinical competency on department. 5. Ensures efficient and cost-effective use of department resources by coordinating use of appropriate supplies, resources and staffing. Participates in continuous quality improvement of their service to benefit patient and physician needs. 6. Proactively identifies areas of opportunity and presents it to the group in a positive format to obtain full cooperation from the staff. Collaborates with leadership in meeting growth goal of the department. 7. Performs all clinical functions and accurately reports results using standard operating policies and procedures to meet requirements of all applicable regulatory agencies. 8. Provides shift lead supervision to clinical staff. Does not manage staff. Works independently to provide excellent patient care. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient family. 9. Complies with all ethical, legal and professional responsibilities. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Requires a level of clinical knowledge as normally obtained through completion of Bachelor’s degree in exercise/physiology or related field. Four years’ experience in cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation and/or stress testing experience. Minimum experience of a 600 + hour internship in outpatient cardiac and/or pulmonary rehabilitation. Requires knowledge in cardiac/pulmonary physiology, management and treatment of chronic disease, health promotion, ECG and 12-lead interpretation. Basic knowledge of research ethics. Requires the ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers. Must have strong interpersonal communications and human relation skills. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
