A Clinical Engineering (CE) Technician maintains, services, and repairs medical
equipment. This could take the form of preventative measures, cleaning, or adjusting pieces of equipment. CE Technicians are also familiar enough with hospital machinery to disassemble, repair, and reassemble various pieces of technology, although they might specialize in a specific kind of machinery. CE Technicians are always up to date on the most recent technologies emerging in the medical field and help ensure that other hospital staff members use the machinery safely.
A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with on-call and weekend requirements. Start/end times are flexible.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide routine and as needed clinical engineering services (repair, maintenance, relocation, installation, etc.) for equipment. Maintain documentation of equipment, inventory, service and repairs. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining medical equipment or equipment in a mechanical or electrical technician field OR Associate’s Degree in Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Information Technology OR equivalent specialized or military training.Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) or Biomedical Engineering Technologist (BMET) Associate’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering Technology IT or networking experience, troubleshooting skills, teamwork, customer service,independence, and a thirst for knowledge
Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb 8-foot ladders and work on overhead equipment.
Ability to work in prone positions and in confined, darkened areas.
Sufficient manual dexterity to use hand and power tools and work on small mechanical parts.
Visual acuity sufficient to distinguish between colors used for wire color coding and read finely printed blueprints and schematics.
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
Ability to travel throughout the hospital system
Ability to move up to 50 pounds
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
