U-Haul Claims Canada is seeking a claims examiner who will be responsible to investigate, evaluate and settle complex claim for physical damages to vehicles and property along with both bodily injury and accident benefit claims across Canada. The files are of varying complexity, and the successful candidate will have a dynamic personality and the ability to excel in a high-performance environment. The successful candidate will investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle Auto Bodily Injury (BI) claims, Accident Benefit claims by telephone and correspondence. The candidate has the ability to work effectively with insureds, adjusters, clients, legal counsel and more.
Essential Duties:
Full handle of both direct deal and litigated files
Investigate, evaluate, negotiate Bodily Injury losses of moderate to high complexity
Post-secondary education completed in a related field
Investigation, collection, and analysis of claims information
Accurate recording, reporting and presentation of files
Manage challenging coverage claims with tact and professionalism
Arrange and manage vendors for your investigation (IA's, surveillance, legal defense, defense medicals)
Maintain accurate reserves and expense control
Manage claims in litigation, participate in mediations, pre-trials and trials
Minimum 3 years of experience handling bodily injury claims
CIP or working towards designation is required
Strong organizational; decision making and problem-solving skillset
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Expertise in file preparation, and demonstrate ability to negotiate a file to resolution
Knowledge of claims settlement, policy wording, and fraud investigations with ability to identify and analyze coverage issues
Strong general computer knowledge required
Knowledge of handling claims across Canada, is an asset
After hours and on call responsibilities in rotation
Other Duties:
Attend meetings and seminars to keep abreast of changes in the insurance field as needed
Participate in team or other meetings as requested or required. This may include travel to meetings away from the normal work location
Handle overflow claim assignments from other teams as requested
Work on special projects as assigned.
Education/Training Requirements:
2–4 years of Accident Benefits and Bodily Injury adjusting experience
Post-secondary education in Insurance, Business, or a related field; CIP designation, or in progress
