Job DescriptionAECOM is currently searching for a Civil Engineering Discipline Leader to support aviation design management in the Hunt Valley, Maryland location. This position is expected to begin as soon as available in our Transportation Aviation Business Line.
The position involves planning, design, engineering, and construction for airport projects dealing with airfield safety, standards, improvement, and expansion programs. Design work includes airfield planning, layout, and site design, earthwork analyses and design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and design, pavement design and maintenance, construction safety and phasing, aircraft layouts and modeling, storm water management design, erosion and sediment control design, utility coordination and design, environmental permitting, and preparation of construction plans, specifications, schedules, design reports, and cost estimates. Construction work includes construction administration and management including shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and construction inspection. The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in-house disciplines including Planners, Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical and Special Systems Engineers in typical projects supporting our airport clients.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provides design technical leadership for the aviation civil engineering group and is considered to be a fully capable professional in the airport fieldApplies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on technical problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferencesResolves important questions and plans and coordinates workRequires the use of advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the aviation field and related sciences and disciplinesSupervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy mattersReceives direction on unusual conditions and developmentsCompletes designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematics, and final working drawings for preparation of construction plans related to airport development projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, hangars, terminals, and other airport facilitiesPrepares construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10 and State requirementsPrepares design reports, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimatesUses various computer software for design development and prepares plans in Civil 3DCoordinates and collaborates with other airport/civil engineering, architectural, and engineering disciplines, sub-consultants, Utility companies, permitting agencies, contractors, government and regulatory agencies, and clientsServes as engineering Task Leader and conducts direct task supervision and mentorship of CAD Staff, Designers, and other Engineers at discretion of department managerPerforms construction administrationPerforms work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and scheduleQualificationsMinimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree + 8 years of related civil experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationAs a condition of employment, candidate must pass client required background check(s).Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records reviewUS Citizenship required due to the projects associated with this positionPreferred Qualifications:
Advanced Experience with Microsoft Office SoftwareAdvanced Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D design softwareExperience in performing construction administration and inspectionRead, write, and communicate effectivelyAbility to work in both an office and field (construction) environmentExperience leading airfield design and construction tasks as part of a bigger projectAdditional InformationSponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position
