Purpose
Responsible for the design phases related to projects for the land development industry. Design work includes site, grading, utility, on-site and municipal wastewater systems, storm water systems, road work, flood studies/mitigation, and state and local permitting.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
Perform work under very limited supervision requiring the need to exercise independent judgement and discretion on a regular or frequent basis.Position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but will serve as a lead/resource among a team of colleagues in equivalent roles to share technical proficiency, guidance, and mentorship. May occasionally assist in delegation of assignments or provide feedback to managers.Assist in mentoring junior designers and CAD technicians on the design and drafting of preliminary and final plans.At the Operational and Company Level
Work closely with more senior staff members to learn and assist in design work.Work collaboratively with multidiscipline design team.Interact with regulatory agencies and clients.Do the Work
Produce drawings using computer-assisted drafting systems (AutoCAD and Civil 3D).Prepare and review drawings to communicate engineering or architectural ideas.Create and document concepts, sketches, models, layouts, submittals, instructions, and complete production packages.Perform design calculations, prepare material and equipment specifications, and provide sketches and notes for drawings.Perform moderate design tasks and prepare portions of project documents.Work independently and collaboratively on planning, design, and/or research on conventional civil engineering projects.Evaluate, analyze, interpret, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for civil engineering projects.Assist in determining project schedule and budget.Prepare permit applications and construction documents; prepare and perform QA/QC of construction documents, technical specifications, and opinions of probable construction costs.Identify and resolve incomplete or conflicting design inputs.Independently resolve problems encountered by selecting and interpreting information from various engineering resources.Success Metrics and Competencies

Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.Associate or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, architecture or similar discipline preferred.Minimum of five (5) years of relevant industry-related experience and proficiency in detail design work within the land/site development industry.Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D design software, particularly grading design, existing and finished grade surfaces and earthwork analysis. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
