THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE  

Santander Corporate & Investment Banking is looking for a lawyer based out of Boadilla del Monte.  

As part of the Markets Legal team, you will play a critical role in enabling the bank to execute sophisticated transactions safely and efficiently. This role provides a strong platform for professional growth within a highly specialised area of banking law. You will work alongside experts in market products (both structured and non-structured), developing deep technical expertise while making a meaningful contribution to Markets’ complex financial transactions. 

We’re shaping the way we work through innovation, cutting-edge technology, collaboration and the freedom to explore new ideas. To succeed in this role, you will be responsible for: 

• Providing legal advice on derivative transactions (both structured and non-structured) across all types of underlying assets (interest rates, inflation, FX, equity, credit, bonds, commodities, etc.), as well as on repos, securities lending, structured loans, structured deposits and structured risk-transfer transactions; including the drafting of all necessary documentation. 

• Providing legal advice on new regulatory developments affecting Markets, as well as legal support in the implementation of corporate projects, participating in multidisciplinary forums and working groups. 

• Offering legal advice on matters related to Treasury and Markets that require the assessment or involvement of the Legal team. 

In our team, we also provide advice on the following matters, in which you may have the opportunity to participate: 

• Legal advice on Capital Markets transactions, including the issuance of structured notes referencing various types of underlying derivatives (e.g., interest rates, inflation, FX, equity, credit, etc.) and repackaging transactions across a wide range of jurisdictions (including Continental Europe and the United States). This includes drafting the full suite of legal documentation, such as prospectuses, final terms / notes T&Cs, placement and dealer agreements, and corporate approvals. 

• Legal advice on traditional and synthetic securitisations, as well as securitisation- and finance-linked swaps.

Professional Experience  

At least 12 years of experience providing legal advice on Markets-related matters (including derivatives, repos and securities lending).  (Required)

Experience in structured credit derivative transactions (Required) 

Experience in TRS over equity, loans and bonds (Preferred) 

Experience in derivatives on commodities (including EUAs and VCC) (Preferred) 

Education 

Degree in Law. (Required) 

A financial background and/or a degree in Business Management or a related field will be considered a plus. (Preferred)

Languages 

High level of English (Required) 

Knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset. (Preferred)

Hard Skills 

Strong knowledge of market products, including master agreements. (Required) 

Additional knowledge of structured notes issuance and synthetic securitisations will be valued. (Preferred)

Soft Skills 

Teamwork and strong collaboration abilities. 

Capacity to work under pressure. 

Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously and prioritise effectively.
