Chief Engineer

Job Summary

Lead engineering team operations to safely and cost-effectively operate building systems while ensuring 100% uptime commitment. Protect client assets through reliability-based maintenance programs, regulatory compliance, and team leadership that maximizes building performance and value.

Key Responsibilities

Building Operations & Team Leadership

Monitor and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, and mechanical/electrical equipment while overseeing preventive maintenance programsSupervise engineering and maintenance staff including hiring, training, and performance managementEnsure Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) process compliance among staff, tenants, and contractorsManage contractor activities and maintain adequate inventory of tools and supplies

Safety & Compliance

Identify safety hazards, implement remediation, and administer comprehensive safety training programsEnsure Federal, State, and Local regulatory compliance and maintain infrastructure documentationExecute equipment inspection and monitoring programs while continuously evaluating maintenance methodsMeasure and manage client feedback through formal and informal relationship meetingsRequired Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field preferred7+ years building operations and maintenance experience3+ years supervisory experience managing engineering and maintenance teamsExperience with commercial building systems and critical facility operations

Technical & Leadership Skills

Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, and mechanical/electrical systemsUnderstanding of preventive/predictive maintenance and building automation systemsProven supervisory experience with hiring, training, and performance managementKnowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and safety program implementation

Core Competencies

Excellent communication and relationship management skillsStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilitiesExperience with inventory management, vendor relationships, and contractor oversightProfessional demeanor with client-focused service orientation and safety commitmentPreferred Qualifications

Advanced Certifications

Professional Engineering (PE) licenseFacilities management certifications (CFM, FMP, SFP)HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems certificationsProject management certification (PMP)

Specialized Experience

Experience with critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, laboratories)Knowledge of energy management, sustainability programs, and CMMS systemsBuilding automation expertise and predictive maintenance technologiesUnderstanding of building commissioning and performance optimizationWorking Conditions

Commercial building environment with exposure to mechanical systems. Requires flexibility for emergency response, contractor coordination, and client meetings. Involves both hands-on technical work and administrative responsibilities.
