Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the entire engineering operations of the hotel's systems, plant and equipment. The management of the department's team members and ensuring budget is utilised efficiently and effectively ensures the hotel is able to deliver exceptional guest experiences. Key responsibilities also include ensuring Australian building compliance requirements are met, acting as Chief Fire Warden, championing hotel environmental and sustainability initiatives, ensuring Hilton Brand Standards are adhered to, and maintaining the hotel's assets.

What will I be doing?

\n

As Chief Engineer, you will oversee all engineering operations across the hotel's interior and exterior facilities, including systems like electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, structural elements, and landscaping. Your role ensures seamless facilities management, exceptional guest experiences, and compliance with safety and sustainability standards. Key responsibilities include:

\n\nLead the Engineering Team in the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, including service standards, equipment schedules, safety protocols and work schedules\nImplementing and maintaining our preventative maintenance program to ensure all equipment and facilities are in good working order. This includes guest rooms, public areas, BOH spaces and the overall façade of the building\nMonitor and coordinate the services performed by outside contractors in accordance with all contracts and service agreements\nCollaborating with departments like Housekeeping and Front Office to ensure seamless operations, while ensuring timely responses to service requests from guests, team members, and management.\nPlan, implement and administer an effective preventive maintenance program in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and government legislation\nPlan, implement and administer and energy management program by analysing and modifying operation and plant and equipment to conserve energy & introduce sustainable systems and equipment\nEnsuring the hotel complies with all local codes and regulations related to safety and environmental standards.\nConduct ongoing inspections of building and facilities to ensure compliance with Workplace Health & Safety, Fire or any other pertinent legislation and take necessary action to maintain compliance\nManaging the maintenance budget, including tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving measures\nCoordinate renovation bidding, define the cost and scope of the project, and oversee the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure quality work is performed cost effectively \nBeing prepared to respond to emergencies, such as equipment failures or natural disasters\nA focus on sustainability with a proactive strategy to reduce the hotels impact on the environment and increase the hotels support to the community.\n

\n\nElectrical, Plumbing or Mechanical trade qualified  \nAdvanced knowledge of building management/engineering\nMotivated, self-driven, with a passion for delivering consistency\nFlexibility with rostering and available 24/7 in case of an emergency\nHigh communication and collaborative skills\nSuperior communicator and negotiating skills who is able to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders for win-win outcomes\nPossess knowledge of the requirements of government regulations and technical rules\nPrevious facilities management experience preferably within Hotels and Hospitality\nA hands-on and approachable leader with previous experience managing and training a team\nExposure to budgeting and basic accounting principles\nExperience in high rise commercial facilities desirable \n\n
