Job Description
The Chief Aviation Officer will provide strategic oversight to the agency’s aviation department. Provide leadership to staff and ensure assigned resources are properly operated and maintained. Work closely with Fire & Emergency Response leadership to determine resource locations and provide swift responses to emerging incidents. Closely monitor and manage department budget.
Responsibilities:
-Provide leadership to air operations personnel. Represent the agency's aviation program in a professional manner. Work closely with agency leadership, personnel and partners to strategically plan for and operate the agency's aviation fleet, facilities and equipment. Be fiscally responsible and accountable.
-Ensure safe and effective operations. Establish and enforce safety standards in accordance with federal and state regulations. Continually evaluate operational efficiency and effectiveness and adherence to safety. Hold program to highest standards.
-Communicate program challenges, accomplishments and projects to division and agency leadership. Educate others on program capabilities. Stay aware of national, state and industry standards and regulations that impact program delivery.
-Ensure compliance with all agency policies and procedures.
-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Fire Science, Emergency Management or related field of study, or equivalent combination of education or experience.
Preferred Education: Master's degree in Aviation, Fire Science, Emergency Management or related field of study.
Required Experience: Ten (10) years experience in fire and emergency response with a recognized response entity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required Knowledge: Knowledge of fire suppression aircraft, operations, maintenance, policies and procedures. Knowledge of fire suppression strategies and tactics.
Required Skills: Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills.
Required Abilities: Ability to lead others, provide program oversight and manage budget.
Registration, Certifications and Licenses:
Required: Texas Driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.
Preferred: NWCG Air Operations Branch Director (AOBD)
Other Requirements:
Required: This is an emergency response position. The employee may be required to work long hours outside of the normal work week. Travel will be required.
