Reporting to the Manager, Chemical Synthesis and Bulk Manufacturing, the Chemical Technician II is responsible for safely handling and moving large quantities of powdered chemicals during manufacturing of bulk chemical reagents, in addition to using wet bench chemistry to test and adjust the manufactured chemistry using an assortment of techniques and instruments.

This position is part of the Bulk Chemical Manufacturing Department located in Ames, Iowa and will be on-site working on 1st shift, Monday through Friday from 6.00 am to 2.00 pm.

In this role, a typical day will look like:

Manufacture bulk powders, bulk solutions, microbiological media, and dyes, handling a diverse range of raw materials. including; concentrated acids, bases, heavy metals, oxidizers, solvents, and flammable materials.Regularly work with large quantities of powdered chemicals (up to 700 kg per batch), including manual and assisted lifting and transfer of 25–100 kg containers of powdered chemistry and 55-gallon drums of liquid chemistry.Perform production controls, adjust bulk reagents to meet product specifications, and conduct wet bench chemistry tests (e.g., titrations, pH, conductivity, spectrophotometry) to ensure quality.Strictly comply with company safety policies, including proper PPE usage, safe operation of equipment, and safe transportation and handling of bulk chemicals.Maintain accurate records for production and inventory management. 

The essential requirements of the job include: 

1 year of completed college chemistry with lab required.1 year scientific production, process, or lab technician experience required or Bachelor of Science degree in lieu of experience required

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.

The compensation range for this role is $27.00 - $27.00 USD per hour. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
