Job Type: Contract
Work period: Full-Time
Duration: 1 year renewable contract
Location: Lacq, Aquitaine
Visa Sponsorship: Available
Airswift are partnering with an international energy company in Lacq, close to Pau, Aquitaine, South West of France. We are recruiting for a R&D Chemical Engineer who will lead and conduct experimental work on a new type of amine solvent which precipitates once loaded with CO2.
Goal
The task consists in leading and conducting experimental work on a new type of amine solvent which precipitates once loaded with CO2.
Context
According to IPCC, Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is part of the mitigation options for stabilizing atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. Hard-to-abate industries (cement, chemicals, petrochemicals and steel industries) refer to industries strongly dependent on fossil fuels and having reactions in their processes which emit CO2. They contribute today approximately 70 % of industrial CO2 emissions. CO2 capture is today considered as mandatory in their zero-emission pathways. For post-combustion CO2 capture, the most mature technology is absorption with aqueous amines. The main drawbacks of amine-based CO2 capture are the high solvent regeneration energy, the large footprint of the capture plant, and potentially the emission of harmful components.
Scope of work
Such precipitation could have some advantages over traditional liquid processes. The task will consist in developing bench test experiments in the research center of a private company in South of France so as to evaluate the efficiency of this disruptive solvent for post-combustion capture. This task is part of a collaboration with a Japanese private company. At the beginning of the contract, a 1-month mission will be organized in their research center in Tokyo in order to familiarize with the application and the way to handle the solvent. Back in France, the service provider will develop new experiments so as to evaluate the efficiency of this solvent for CO2 capture. This study will be done with another team specialized on thermodynamics and kinetics measurements.
Prepare and experimental set up Run the experiments Analyze the results Synthesize the results, write reports and transmit to the company representative
