Chemical Engineer Nalco Water, Research Development & Engineering (RD&E) Team based in Leiden, The Netherlands

Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company, is seeking a motivated engineer to join our innovation efforts and support our customers in the Global High Tech (GHT) industry. We are establishing a dedicated EU GHT RD&E team who will work alongside our Global Water RD&E group in Leiden, the Netherlands. The Senior Chemical Engineer will primarily be responsible for contributing to the development and / or deployment of innovative chemistry, equipment and/or digital technologies in the GHT industry. The role will also encompass a significant portion of customer (field / application) support, using these learnings to ensure a robust pipeline for new products and platforms that help our customers solve complex problems relating to water treatment. We are seeking a candidate with a strong technical background, who is ‘hands-on’, ideally with practical field/application experience, who is self-motivated, enjoys versatility and work across different topics and projects, has a desire for collaboration and is a creative problem solver.

The main responsibilities of the role are to:

Collaborate with a global team on innovation development and deployment of products (chemistry, equipment or digital) related (but not limited) to cooling within the global high tech industry

Provide customer support relating to cooling / water treatment (e.g., direct to chip, closed loops, open-evaporative systems, adiabatic, effluent treatment) in the GHT industry.

This involves:

Being a key technical contributor on multiple, complex projects by conducting both lab and field tests (typically under the guidance and supervision of a lead engineer or subject matter expert), ensuring that data is analyzed, documented and results communicated in a clear and concise manner.

Support the development of the application guidelines and operational windows for new products and/or technologies.

Collaborating with a global team, various functions as well as potential 3rd parties on the development of technologies that meet customer needs.

Identifying and understanding customer needs and challenges within the GHT industry (through field visits, engagement with customers and industry experts) and using these learnings and experience to support the development of the EU innovation roadmap.

Provide technical support to sales and customers which includes but not limited to, technical training, application guidance, technical exchange, trouble-shooting, field visits etc.

Qualifications and experience:

Chemical, Mechanical, Process Engineering or related with ideally 2-4 years of industry/field experience OR

Masters in Chemical, Mechanical, Process Engineering or related with ideally 1-2 years of industry/field experience

Industry / field experience in cooling water treatment (open-recirculating and closed) cooling water treatment and / or effluent treatment is an advantage

Experience in the Global High Tech industry (and associated cooling technologies such as Direct to Chip cooling, Adiabatic) is an advantage

Self-starter, who is willing to learn and has a ‘hands-on’ approach

Good communication skills; with the ability to deliver complex information in an easy-to-understand format

Creative problem-solving skills

Works well under pressure

Proficiency in English (both written and verbal) required

Willingness and ability to travel 10-30 % of the time
