Seeking an as needed (PRN) Charge Master Specialist to support our Emergency Room department at Northwest Medical Center, located on 6200 N La Cholla Blvd.

Job Summary

The Charge Master Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the facility's Charge Description Master (CDM) to ensure accurate charge capture and compliance with billing and coding requirements. This role receives, evaluates, and processes new item requests, determines chargeability, and updates systems accordingly. The specialist collaborates with clinical, financial, and IT stakeholders to ensure that CDM data aligns with regulatory guidelines and supports timely and compliant revenue capture.

Essential Functions

Reviews and processes new item and service requests, determining appropriate chargeability and ensuring accurate setup in downstream systems.Participates in annual CDM reviews, including CPT/HCPCS code updates, making additions, deletions, and revisions in alignment with regulatory changes and internal protocols.Collaborates with Revenue Integrity, HIM, Finance, and department leaders to maintain CDM accuracy and resolve charge-related discrepancies.Audits charge data and usage patterns to identify missed or incorrect charges; works with departments to improve charge entry and reduce revenue leakage.Reviews audited surgical cases to identify missing implant or supply charges and recommends improvements to documentation and charging workflows.Ensures that all CDM changes are implemented within appropriate timelines and documented according to policy.Communicates regulatory requirements and charge master maintenance procedures to department leaders and stakeholders.Demonstrates proficiency with hospital systems and applications used for CDM maintenance and charge processing.Performs other duties as assigned.Maintains regular and reliable attendance.Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Associate Degree in Health Information Management, Business, or related field preferred2-4 years of experience in revenue cycle, charge integrity, or CDM management requiredKnowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding and healthcare billing practices required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of charge capture processes and CDM maintenance standards.Proficiency in interpreting CPT, HCPCS, and revenue code requirements.Strong analytical and auditing skills with attention to detail.Ability to communicate technical and regulatory information clearly and effectively.Proficient in Microsoft Excel and relevant hospital billing or CDM software.Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical departments.

Licenses and Certifications

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred
